Bought a ‘69 Skylark with a 455 and the engine was right on the firewall. I pulled the engine and trans and I’m wondering about the previous owners frame pad placement. I found the conversion guide on Buick Performance and it looks like the pads are on the wrong sides and they need to be moved to the forward most holes. Did the previous owner drill his own holes? Were there holes there already? Gonna drop the control arms and move them but just wondering how the hell it got to this point? The car had TA long tube headers so I don’t know if he did it for clearance or ????

First, they are swapped. (need to be opposite)
I think the correct holes are there, and they will line up correctly if you swap them.

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

Maybe the PO was trying to even out the front/rear weight distribution..

This car also had a long water pump and a long tail shaft 400 transmission and a custom made driveshaft going to a 12 bolt Chevy rear end. All kinds of mix and matching going on. I will get it straightened out by Spring......I hope.

You know they sell frame pads that move the engine back for that reason. Maybe leave it as is?

I’m just going to put it back to “normal” and run stock exhaust manifolds. This engine was ON the firewall.

I got them switched without removing the control arms. I cussed a little. I busted my knuckles. I had to fish bolts out of the frame. I took a couple breaks to clear my head and sip a beer. Previous owner had drilled (butchered) his own holes for the frame pad install he did.

And it still gets the front wheels up! :)
