Started with a 450 Honda scrambler at 16 then moved to a brand new 1974 850 Norton Commando for $1700 lousy bucks, then on to Harleys. The newest HD I bought new was a 1977 Low rider (gray with mags etc) was 2700 brand new! The latest (10 years now) is a 1978 Low rider converted to an FLH custom. The '78 was the last year for the 1200 four speeds; this one has 88 inch flywheels and a super tall road gear. It needs to run 2nd gear around town. The PO had it geared for cross country trips and rolls easy at about 85 mph. ws

Here is the first motorcycle I ever owned, not counting my Rupp mini bike. It is a 1973 Honda XL175. I bought it brand new in 1973 and I still have it. This picture was taken in 2006 at a vintage dirt bike ride I went to in Oklahoma. It has been modified quite a bit over the years. It has a Powroll Performance 199cc stroker crank, Powroll up pipe with a Supertrapp silencer, Curnutt shocks and CR250 Elsinore front forks with an XL250 front wheel. Plus many other minor things.

Those are some cool retro pics WildBill.

48 chief with matching engine/frame numbers, original sheet metal and very few repop parts. Its the only bike I own so it gets ridden way more than the average 68 year old motorcycle. Recreational use only of course. It runs better than it looks and has proven very reliable with basic preventive maintenance. I know I'm kooky but have no desire to ride anything but a kick- start, foot- clutch, tank- shift machine.

Nice! Have you ever been to the "Wheels Through Time" museum in Maggie Valley, NC? If not, you would love it. Dale has around 250 vintage American motorcycles in it and they all run.

Here is my 1951 Harley-Davidson EL Panhead. It was a cool bike and I still regret selling it. Foot clutch & tank shift...

So JZ... is that Chief a 74 or an 80? I'm not too up on Injuns' ! I had a police 45 HD with a tank shifter and the front brake was on the left side where the clutch lever would be along with the overriding foot clutch. I got to the end of the drive way on the first ride and pull in the "clutch" , the bike stopped and fell over and busted the Fairbanks Morse magneto cap. No more fun for that one that day! The '52 74 panhead came to the rescue tho. That one was converted to a foot shifter.
We are both kooks... Ill be at a stop light with some Yakamachi thing and the guys revving it like it'll load up (they'll idle all day and not do that!) and Ill shout over to the guy and yell "POP A WHEELIE!!!". Never to be out done and show off, a wheelie is paramount, and if I get lucky he'll do it right in front of a cop. That's when its fun to ride in the city. :moonu: ws

Yep, 61 cubic inches. My dad had a 51 EL that he bought new and had it until he died in 69. So I always wanted one, finally got one and then during a moment of temporary insanity, I sold it...

Here is a picture of my dad with his 51 shortly after he bought it:

This was my baby back in the day. One of many bikes, but my last one.
1949 FL pan head, highly modified stroker motor, SU carb, wishbone ridged frame, 30" over springer, 17" front wheel, rear mechanical brake, mousetrap clutch, etc, etc, etc.

Raced a friends 1967 427/435 Corvette up to 130 mph and had to quit because front wheel was bouncing like a basketball.
Also drove that bike every day to my office in Manhattan in the rush hour. Rode with some bad ass dudes back then.
Glad I'm still alive. :eek2: :Dou:

That is ole MOON' from back in the day, a stone rider. I've been told I clean up pretty good.
