Should I go to BPG Nats?

I am going to try to go to one more Buick event this year. It will be either the BPG nats, or Cecil County. I've never been to BPG, but I Cecil is a known entity to me and I usually enjoy it. But I also hear that people have a lot of fun at BPG.

My problem is that I ONLY go for Test & tune - I don't enter any race classes. It appears that the only test & tune at BPG will be on Friday for about 5 hours, and Saturday afternoon for about 20 minutes. Is that about right? With that little amount of racing, it seems like BPG might not be the event I want to attend.

I have a relatively fast, but quite inconsistent car. I also have a very inconsistent R/T. I'm not a very competitive individual and I don't really care about those, I just enjoy driving my own car fast down the strip and chatting with fellow Buick enthusiasts. I love the GS Nationals because I get three full days (tues, Wed, and Thurs) of virtually unencumbered test & tune before the event gets shifted to the "serious racers".

Is BPG really designed for racecars and show cars?

Thoughts from people who have been there before?

Bob, I haven't made it to BPG since 04, but at that time there was PLENTY of opportunity for T&T. However, I think the event is 1 day shorter than it was back then? I had a blast, wish I could go every year.

Bob, why is your car inconsistent, that is the reason I am switching to a fast set up in my drag car.

    Herb-

Nothing to do with the FAST, that works great. It's more of a traction issue (tons of torque on terribly inadequate tires with boring suspension), coupled with a transmission issue (inconsistent switch-pitch switching). Because of those, I have to feather the throttle, and of course I'm inconsistent with the throttle. So combined, my launches are all over the map which makes for terrible brackets. Of course mine is only a street machine, so I don't bother trying to correct those issues.

I was surprised about the schedule- I also thought it was a 4-day weekend, with Thursday & Friday as "open" days, then the "serious" racing starting on Saturday. But without that extra day of open track time, seems like there will be minimal track time for me.

p.s. Herb, when you get ready to fire up the FAST, let me know and I'll try to help get you going.

at bpg you will have more t&t time than you know what to do with, last year I made about 10 passes in my car, and that is with hours in between..

You can pretty much hot lap your car all day:laugh:

You can hot lap on Friday AND Saturday? Or just Friday? The schedule doesn't mention much "open" track time on Saturday. Although the burnout contest would be cool...

Two days of T&T would defininately make it worthwhile (even if Saturday isn't "hot lapping"), it's just hard to figure out from the schedule what's gonna be going on.

There is no racing during the car show on Saturday. That's all. There is some qualifying being done, but they will have a lane open for T&T inbetween qualifying runs.

We will have a lane all weekend for just Test and tune. The race classes will need some cool down time between rounds, and that is where we will have a lane for just test and tuning. This will happen all 3 days.
    Hope to see you there.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

and as a follow-up, I had no problem making test and tune passes even as the racing program was being run on sunday.

... just pulled up, at most waited 5 min ... and they waived me through.

Friday ? you could have run your car out of gas making pass after pass. Sat we had rain end our day a bit earlier than intended but at least we got the car show in and a bit of racing afterward

All in all, a great time
