I'm impressed but,he still has to be able to hook it up though.I have raced mostly 4 speeds in my GS's and it will take a bit of time till Rob figures it out. When he does LOOK OUT!Until he gets it to hook up,John and I will have to put the whooping on him with our 350 4 speeds....lol I can't wait to see the numbers for the 1/4 mile.Thats when the real impressive part is.I hope to see low 13's or even mid 12's.

    Ha Ha Pat!

First off, I don't have to worry about John as his frontend is off covered in playsand and by the time he has it together it'll be winter! :eek2:  Secondly, I got the 3 series posi carrier waiting to be installed sitting quietly and I'll be getting a set of no hop bars to compliment that. Once I get those installed I'll work from there. So, if you think you can still put a whoopin' on me I'll be up for the challenge cause if you're gonna talk the talk, you better walk the walk  :3gears:

Pat, we should set a date on when we all should get together again.

Hey Tubbed, what makes you think a SBB block and rods can safetly handle 700hp? Not being cocky I just want to know.

Rob, GREAT NUMBERS!!! I'm glad things are coming together, I was beginning to wonder about this. When are you dropping it in? Your not going to know how to act!!! Wow!!! I'm looking forward to seeing some air on the front tires on launch at the track.:3gears: Keep us posted!!! AL :TU:

rob : del here , talked to your bro on the pistons . anyway :
    1) motor deal is sounding good , well actually better than good .
    2) congrats on the great response numbers , shows ALOT of interest .
    3) and jumping in on RG67BEAST 's reply , i too have heard the 700 hp estimate on block power limits and several people have continued to compared the 350 to the v6 , is that an accurate picture or should other factors , not just basic block design , be taken into consideration ? the block is 25-33% longer and so shouldn't it "flex" a noticable amount more . in theory would a v4 be able to handle a 1000 hp ? thinkin' ahead . del

Thanks Al :TU: Del, I believe the 350 and the 231's block strength is very close, which leads me to believe the horsepower both blocks can handle would be compariable. I don't think the two extra cylinders would cause too much flexing, but that all depends if the castings of the 350 ever changed throughout the years. The most important thing is someone needs to approach that horsepower level first. With the numbers Jim is able to get out of this engine, using a power adder should easily put it up to the 700 hp range. When I spoke to Jim awhile ago I mentioned I was looking into an ATI procharger down the road so I had him o-ring the block so it'll be a safer installation. With the power this engine is putting out already I know it'll give my little M-20 a workout so I probably will have to be easy on it for awhile and look into an aftermarket M-22 Rockcrusher. Building the rest of the car around the engine so it can handle the power it is one of the most important things to do.

Rob, the weak link will be the transmission and I would really look for a fine spline straight gear muncie, there a little more noisy then what you have but a lot stronger. The good thing is if you keep you transmission in one piece it has a good market value but the one your looking for is $$$$$$$. When is that power plant going to see the frame rails of the 70 GS Mean Green Machine. Keep me posted!!! AL.

I looked at the new aftermarket muncie and it runs upwards of $2000. I'm seriously looking into it as I wouldn't want to blow the guts out of the one I have. I just have to watch how far I press on the gas pedal in order to keep it alive for now. As with the engine, Jim still has the poston intake to try out, but I'm also interested in the use of an adapter plate for other intakes if there would be a significant gain with it. I know there is a considerable difference in horsepower between the single and dual plane intakes. I'm not sure when exactly my engine will be sitting between the frame rails as we're still looking for the most power out of the engine. Jim mentioned the engine could use a bigger cam, but for now he's tuning everything with the one that's in it and then maybe move up after everything's done with the tuning. I figure with the amount of money already invested in the engine I might as well see about getting the most out of it.

The new Tremec TKO 600 5-speed is cheaper (around $1600) and has better gearing, first is 2.87:1 . It also will withstand 600 ft-lbs.

That sounds cool. I can use a 4.10 rear and have an extra gear for cruising down the highway, thanks Scott!

Ok guys and gals, I started playing with the carb jetting on this 1000 demon on Rob's 350 Buick.
I was pretty pleased, oh heck, I was beside myself when the little engine posted a horsepower of 479 at 5500 rpm and 472 torque at both 4600 and again at 5500.
Then I went and started looking at the readings through the pull, the printouts give average readings, and started seeing horsepower readings of 480, 482, 485 490 495 and a top of 502 at 5588 rpm.

Holy cow, this thing is making some very serious power.
It is making over 400 horsepower in the mid 4000 rpm range.

If this thing hooks, it should be in the 11's no problem.

To say the least, I am very happy with this engine. Jim Burek

First, thank you guys for all your work you have put into this project. I knew there was a reason I've been collecting 350 parts all these years. I'am posting some pics of a manifold I got with a bunch of other parts from someones failed NHRA Super Stock engine. I don't really know much about it, but someone has put alot of time and effort into it.

Absolutely amazing!!! Has anyone thought of calling Car Craft or Hot Rod magazine and telling 'em about this engine? Maybe they'd do a feature on it. I know Hot Rod did "The other 350's" article awhile back. This would be sweet to get this info out nationally and have vendors/manufactures see the potential of the 350 Buick. Im simply "wow" struck at the hp/tq numbers at super "rod" friendly rpm:grin: I believe ALOT of people will love the power potential of the 350 Buick at that relativley low rpm!!
Also, can you give us a brief overview of anything special done to the engine such as any trick oiling system mods, crank mods such as crossdrilling, etc, etc?
Im wondering if my 750 Holley carb is holding me back also:Do No: Hmmmmmmmm, the potential!
Great job guys, keep us posted!! Mark
