Sail panels, how do they install for a 70GS with deluxe interior (light in the sail panel)? My assumption is that they are installed after the headliner, but not sure how they are affixed to the side. And just to double check...Headliner installed first, sail panels second and then package tray. Thanks, Nick
The fabric is glued to the flanges at the quarter window and rear window. There are 2 screws that hold the light bezel onto the C pillar, which holds the sail panel to the pillar.
Yeah, Legendary sent something with it. Wasn't sure what it was for or how it was used. But that explains it. Did they leave your ends of the fabric on the sail panel unglued? meaning not wrapped around the edges? That's what they did for me, so I was thinking it needed to be stretched around something. Also, no hole or area perforated to show where the courtesy light goes. Did you have to cut a hole in yours and what did you use? Hey Frank...Thanks again. Does the package tray get held down by anything? Or does it just sit in place and the sail panels and back seat hold it in? OK, this might answer my question to NZ GS 400, the fabric on the sail panels in not glued around the pack. I can see the metal piece towards the front of the car (at the back of the quarter window) to stretch and glue around. And I guess that explains the trim around the side of the back window. That's for the sail panel and not the headliner. So then would it be correct to say that the top and bottom fabric of the sail panels get tucked and glued to the sail board while the front and back edges get stretched around the metal pieces? Then I gotta figure out how to add the hole for the courtesy light. All, thanks again! Nick
Yes the top and bottom just wrap around the cardboard and glued in place. I had my old sail panels to use as a template for the holes...if you're willing to wait, I can send them to you.
Thanks for confirming. and the offer. I do have my old sail panels. They were just confusing me as all four edges, the fabric was wrapped around the panel and glued to the back. None of it was connected to the metal trim. And my car had no headliner or package tray when I bought it, so nothing to reference. Just the old pieces that were stuck in the metal channels below the windlace was all that was left. Guess my only concern now is the new brown headliner, sail panels and sun visors Legendary sold me are a little lighter than the original sail panels and remnants of headliner. I have a burnished saddle interior. New pieces on the bottom, old pieces on top with a new piece of vinyl in the middle for reference.
I didn't have an old sail panel for reference for my new ones either. I used a mock up made from cardboard box to check my calculations before cutting on the new panel. It took some time; but it was a success.
