Well I dont usuallly look for trouble on my way to work since I'm usually still waking up, but this morning, I pull up to a stop light and notice the benz that was behind move agressivly to the right to pull up next to me, I notice him look over at my Skylark and figure its just someone looking at the car (I get alot of looks in my town, there arnt many old muscle cars roaming the streets). Next thing I know is the Benz is launching from the light. I dont miss any time and punch it to catch up. I manage to creep up to even the score (door to door) but I cant seem to pass him.

Well at that point we hit traffic, and I had to get in a different lane to exit so he passed and I noticed it was an S500. Apparently these things run 0-60 in 6.1 and the quarter in 14.5. I figure if I really launched the buick right I would have had him, but who figures a benz is looking for a fight :).

Just for the record, I'm driving a:

    1971 Skylark 350
    TA Intake
    3.42 Gears
    2400 Stall converter
    MSD Ignition

    hmmm

The new S500, 55 and 600 are supercharged at 493 hp from the factory. There is new one down here, with nothing more than a Dinan chip, that ran 11.90's at over 120, and he drives it every day...

I thought that only the AMG's were blown. I'm pretty darned sure the one I ran across was only NA. As in he didnt destroy me. I'm pretty sure my baby is a mid 14 second car.

my friend owns (and i usually drive when he's passed out at the bar) a brand spankin new MB s500. It's a naturally aspirated 5.0 liter making i'm pretty sure about 300-305 hp. It's decently quick, but definitely not supercharged, I'm 99.9% sure the AMG s50 is the only blown version.

yep, the S500 is not blown, the AMG versins are.

There was an E55 AMG at teh track the other night, he was running 14.17 bone stock(K&N filter) at 2700 ft elevation in 90+degree heat. Mighty impressive.

    brblx clueless

    not for 500hp.

not sure how heavy they are (i'd guess at leak 4k) but their rear gearings definately kill them. being more a luxo-cruiser, i think they come from the factory with 2.65 rears.:Dou:

They do, but their 5 speed automatic transmissions only go to 1:1 and have ultra low 1-4 gears.

The S600 is one to look out for - Twin Turbo 6.0L (I think) V-12. The one member on LS1.com (Treynor) owns one and it dynoed about 450 rwhp and 500+ rwtq. He is the one with only a Dinan Chip running 11's. It ran mid 12's bone stock - not bad for a luxo barge benz!
I really like a lot of the new stuff the Germans are putting out now - large displacement motors with tons of HP and even more torque.. sort of reminds me of what GM used to do..

As a past S600 owner I can tell you that those things fly. I had the version prior to the new twin turbo, mine was a 2001. Magazine tests show the new TT S600 runs high 11's bone stock. Those things have 590 lb/ft of torque. The chip ups the boost and they are close to 600hp. The S500 is a 5L V8 302hp and 335 tq. The new AMG S55 is a supercharged, hand built 5.5L V8 with almost 500hp depending on the application. The E55 you saw at the strip was an older, non SC version. The new one will run 11's all day. There is a HP war among the Germans right now. Audi has 450hp cars, M-B has 500hp cars, BMW is coming out with a 500hp V-10 soon, Porsche has a 450+hp turbo six, only 220 cubic inches in that one.

I can't wait until the used car market depreciates the heck out of them and I can snap one up  I bought my wifes V-12 BMW two years old with 18k miles for half its new price. Thats the way to get em.
