I started listening to them in 5th grade played Tres Hombres over and over that summer. Saw them for the first time in 1980 on the Deguello tour. Last time I saw them was in 2015 at Fayette County Fair when it was the first time they played La Grange in La Grange. There songs blasted out of my 6x9 Jensen speakers in from the 8 Track in my 72 Skylark all through my youth. Dusty will truly be missed He was a Texas Legend!!!
Saw them a few years ago at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL. One of the few bands who never changed their original lineup.
Yup, me too... a very cold night in Feb of 86... Afterburner tour.. awesome show live.. one of the few bands that sounds better in person. Hard to believe Dusty is gone.. RIP JW
I need to find those ticket stubs. I remember they were crazy-expensive, over $300 each! I would guess the lady that gave them to us was a high-roller and Harrah's gave them to her.
Sad news indeed. ZZ Top will go on, but they will be hard pressed to replace the blues/boogie groove Dusty brought to their music. Tops' '70's releases were a staple in my listening as a youth, and were playing nearly constantly. To this day I haven't tired of their earlier efforts.
