Well I am ALWAYS glad to hear thing go well. :) Thank goodness. See how it is at the end of summer and keep an ear to it for a bit. If you do not get any changes you will be good for a good long time. :) Jim

    Update:

I just installed new spring for the posi, take200lb out and put 400lb in. Was a good time for check the wear pattern on my gears.
Here are two picture from 1 saison hard driving approx 3000 Miles on the rear end.
There is no wining or another strange noise..

    What you think about it?

If you need stiffer springs in the posi, then the clutches are not shimmed properly. A good tuned unit does not need those springs at all. They are more of a crutch. With the new junk poly carbon clutches, you now see more units with 800lb springs. That is why.
Tom's Diffetential did an article about this in the early 80's,and recently posted a 3-part video on YouTube about it.Very informative for the newbies.

heavier springs are for a quicker reaction on low speed grip. do not go anymore than 400 # or you will just prematurely wear the clutches. 800# is drag race or off orad only for maximum hook at low speed operation.
Good luck and glad the gears are nice and quiet. :) You dd good.

Depending on when you bought those gears, they might be Motive's. They were Supplying Summit with their line of gears sets some years back, and were quite nice. However,I haven't had a set in about 6 years, and I know they have a habit of changing suppliers to put ther name on.Whatever they are, they look pretty good so far.
There are more economical & cheaper gearsets popping up on the market, and you get what you pay for. The finish is not as nice as the higher end sets, which have more machining & finishing steps.Who knows how well they have been treated.

Thanks for your advices. Monzaz, can I run these 400lb springs without problems?

No Problem.... While you have it apart to install the springs you really need to check your clutch tightness... When you remove the cross shaft see how much movement the pinion (small spider gears) have ...IF they flop around between the side gears (larger gears that the axle shafts spline into) then you need to add shim behind the clutch pack and the posi case.
You may have to evaluate the clutch pack if the spiders are WAY too loose... If the clutches are excessively worn they will need replacements.

You can posi pictures if you like will help out.

Jim, this time i didn't take the posi out. I replaced the spring pack while it was still in the case.
The posi did work very well, but with my new TA Block Im afraid the posi can break.

So my question is, how strong is a 12 bolt? whats the weak point ?
