I got the Carter AFB on my 64 Riviera rebuilt. It runs fine when it is cold. But when it is hot, it bogs down and smoke comes out the exhaust when push the pedal more than 1/4 way down. Is it running too rich? I have he choke all the way to lean. Any ideas what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks

What kind of smoke? White = coolant, blue = oil, black/grey = fuel.
I'd check the choke again. Even though you leaned it out, it might not be working properly.

It is black/gray smoke. Also, it only does it when it is hot outside. I can drive all the way to work in A.M with no problems. But it is worse when I drive home. The choke I put on there is brand new. The butterfly's are open.

According to Carter, the 1964 Buick is one of the vehicles which used a stainless steel heat baffle UNDER the carburetor. These do not come in repair kits (you reuse the original). Failure to install the heat baffle could cause the symptoms you describe.

If the heat baffle is present, try resetting the float levels such that the fuel levels in the bowls are 1/32 inch less than standard. Modern fuel is much more volatile than 1964 gasoline.

That could be the problem. I was told that I did not need to put that back on. I have it somewhere. I'll give it a try...

    thanks,
