Hello again forum members as a Buick newbie I need your help , as I posted in my introduction a few days ago I recently purchased a poorly executed GSX clone attempt that had probably spent more time in a field then on the road in the last decade, The bright yellow paint that is over sprayed through out the car could not disguise the fact that this car used to be green , and the GSX call letters on the front grille still don't make this 1971 GS a GSX .
After tearing out the interior today I've pretty much come to the conclusion that this will be a long term ground up restoration and I' just starting out on my journey so i could use some help, the previous owner during his "paint it all yellow " phase removed the cowl tag and the only thing I have left to try and bring this car back to original is the vin # 434371Z100801 , and the fact that I can see what appears to be "Limemist?" paint in the areas the previous owner missed while painting ,anyone have a idea where or how I can find more documentation? i.e original paint code etc?. Thanks in Advance

Have you looked for the build sheet in the car? There are no external factory records for 71 model year Buicks.
    Limemist was a 71 color.

I saw a 71 GSX clone for sale on this board recently. I would consider buying one already done. It will save you time and money.

So far no I haven't found anything , the interior had been changed previously and I have removed all of the carpeting trunk and cabin (it smelled like a barn) and the seats, the glove box is missing so nothing there.
I agree with you if someone wants a GSX they should buy a GSX (don"t get me wrong I've seen some pretty damn good clones out there!, I don't have GSX money) but I knew it was a GS when I bought it and it will be a GS when I'm done I just would like to be as close to correct as possible when I'm done since this is going to be a frame up , the previous owner attempted to make this a GSX and unfortunately he did a horrible job not even close to being a passable clone.

Appreciate your help but unfortunately everything except the VIN was removed , I'm thinking of contacting the person who started the cloning , I bought the car from a third party but the title still has his name on it and see if he can give me any insight. Thanks to you guy's I've already learned a lot in just a couple of replies!!

A couple of pics of the car as it sits and the green paint under the yellow which leads me to suspect it may have been LimeMist

That's a really low sequence number on the VIN. 801st car off the Freemont line. And they were a GMAD plant.

    Hi GS Rick.
There is another 70 GSX clone that is really a 71 skylark. They change the VIN and trim tag from a real GSX. The kicker is it was also an original lime mist green, what are the odds.......

Look on the driver side frame at the rear and let me know if this matches the number that you have.

After some brushing on the frame I found this, not the same as what you have but I would have never knew those numbers were even there if it hadn't been for you .Thanks!! and Thanks to all the forum for the knowledge..
