First resto and I am wondering which steps I should do next or even if it matters. What I’ve done so far Deconstruct Frame painted Ft and Rr suspension Rr drums Ft factory discs Steering All new lines Rear axle rebuild c/w 3.23 Posi Driveshaft rebuilt Trans rebuilt 470 engine build Recored rad Metal work done Bodywork nearing completion Paint within two weeks fingers crossed so do I continue with exterior and finish up the chrome and trim Or so I move to the interior next I need a new headliner so I am assuming easier to install before reinstalling the windshield and rear window Weatherstripping Side glass Carpet. Do you still use the jute pad backing with the sound deadened? What material is the board that separates the trunk from the backseat. Is it just a fibre board from Lowe’s or ? Thanks for the help Kevin
Get the paint and body done before doing any trim or chrome. Once body is painted and buffed, then install trim (not including front and rear windshield) Install headliner if you can before front and rear glass and side roof rail trim. It is much easier to tuck that headliner up into the channel where it is attached. You can install interior once headliner is in, plus windshields. Then install outer remaining trim. Package trays can be bought through REM, but you can order one through CARS, Inc and it will be from REM anyway. They will have the thin vinyl piece sewn to the leading edge of the tray that gets glued down to the vertical section of the back seat brace. If you bought pre-molded carpet, it will already have jute glued to the bottoms in certain areas.
Ok thanks interior it is. I appreciate your answers. Most of the discussion here is around A bodies but any suggestions for Rivieras on sources for the carpet and headliner and weatherstripping. I looked at sms but it appears they only supply a bodies.. I looked on CARS website and looks like they are probably a good source any parts or manufacturers to stay away from or recommended.
Needing a build thread so I can get a parts list...I'm trying to start a 69 Riv resto as well. X2 on Smartin comments. Get all the nasty, dusty done early.
Lol I never considered a build thread before mainly because I am no expert on any of this stuff and come to this forum for a lot of technical know how. I have zero formal training but have decent mechanical aptitude. I will pull together some pictures and answer what I can. Second gen rivs are hard to source parts for so hopefully yours is complete and in decent shape
