In the process of repairing an oil leak ( oil filter housing) and just finished cleaning the entire front passenger side- control arms , floor pan , starter. The oil managed to soak the starter wiring and battery cable to the point the insulation on all the wiring is dissolving . Looked around to see if anyone is reproducing the harness with the fusible links with no luck. Not my strong suit, but I may have to make one up myself. Does anyone make the wiring in the correct colors? The red one I think I found but the purple one - 10 gauge can’t seem to locate. Trying to make look as factory did . I’m sure a few guys have rewired their starter. My car is a 68 Custom w/ 350 .
American autowire has them. Todd from die cast has them cheaper. 9200190265114600001555720192001902651146000015557201
I would just repair what you have. Dorman makes the two fusible links. What no one sells locally are the two "step down" butt connectors you will need to go from 10/12 Guage to 14/16 gauge wiring to connect the fusible links to the harness. Luckily for you, I have them in stock. As well as some pristine factory purple wire. Your for the taking if you want to take a drive to my house
The engine harness is not in bad shape ; the oil leak over a period of time saturated all of the starter wiring- and everything within 2 feet. The insulation on the wiring is soft and is receding from the terminals . Now that the oil leak is being addressed, the wiring is being repaired before something shorts out.
Had this saved on my favorites, forgot about it. Has all of the part numbers for fusible links and a nice write up on how to fix them. The other wires can be cut back and replaced if they are that bad. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/replacing-a-fusible-link.325644/
