The woodgrain vinyl dash on my 71 Volvo 1800E is separating from the dash face. In a perfect world, I would remove the instruments, take out the dashboard , remove the old vinyl insert and install a new vinyl dash insert. . But,this part is not reproduced or available. And I'm not too excited about taking the dash apart. The vinyl woodgrain is not torn or faded, it's just separating from the backing. Any notions as to how I could introduce glue/adhesive to the backside of the vinyl insert without removing the dash? Glue syringe? Thin adhesive? Any ideas would be appreciated!

That's tough. I think it would be best if possible to remove the decal completely and clean up the back of the decal and the face of the panel? Then reapply with new adhesive? Maybe a photo would help.

Here is a photo of one of the areas where the wood grain vinyl is lifting. D0688505-373F-4A94-8BFD-0612080AAB1D.jpeg

It might actually be wood veneer? be very delicate with it, as i don't think you can buy a replacement...

If you can get all the knobs/escutcheons out of the way, maybe you can very gently lift the veneer. I would clean both surfaces with denatured alcohol, and then use a spray type of adhesive that works like rubber cement. I mean you spray both surfaces and then after it is mostly try bring the two together. This is all speculation of course...

Thank you ,Max! It's old, thin ,dried out vinyl. And, you are right,it is not reproduced and cannot be replaced. Took the 1800 out for a spin this afternoon...all 120 hp. Got in a stoplight race with a loaded F150 pickup...Hah! Showed him! he thought he was racing some kinda exotic Italian... he only beat me by a few hundred car lengths! Good ol'stodgy Swede! Too much fun!

If it has no printing on it I'd peal it the rest of the way off, use as a templet over a new piece of wood grain vinyl like shelf liner. Once its cut to fit well spray both surfaces with a soapy water and apply/ squeegee down.
