hey guys I'm almost done with the parts list for the convertible top switch bypass. for 70-72 sky/GS's others maybe identical but I'm not sure. (so you don't need to run 25A thru your old top switch. ) just a total of .25 milliamps It looks like it will cost about 20-25 bucks when done (plus shipping from the supplier) for you to get parts. (I'm going to make some good instructions and illistrations for you all to assemble this in your garage) I may be able to make a few for those who arn't too keen on doing electrical work though. It will keep a mostly stock setup (hopefully when done it will be a drop in replacement and only needing to run one single 12awg wire from the fuse block to the rear of the car. anyhows... does anyone know where I can get a recepticle for the plug that mounts under the dash for the ACC location (i'm planning on pulling this wire that plugs into the fuse panel and want to splice in here but want to use plugs instead (for the guys who don't want to cut into there current wiring harness.) I'm also looking for who supplies the plug assy at the convertible top motor. I need both the male and female ends to finish the true plug in design. Nate
interested I'd be interested in this. My top switch is burned out and I have yet to find a replacement. Hope it works for a 69 Skylark. Eric
Eric, A Top switch I may be able to help you with, I just bought a Dash Bezel for a convertible with cruise control (you don't wanna know how much) but it comes with two 69 switchs, one for the top one for cruise, if they're in as good of shape as they look I'll let you know, I've already got a good switch and a spare so I can afford to let it go. Should have the parts late next week.
thanks Thanks Len. BTW, mine also has cruise control, however the two switches are different) Also, my transducer (?) is broken, or the cable going into the speedo it is not working. Can I run the speedo cable directly from the tranny into the speedometer? (Not that I mind not knowing how fast I'm going, it's kinda poetic :Brow: ) Eric
Sure you can bypass the cruise control unit but I doubt it's the problem, probably a broken cable or speedo. I'm always in the market for cruise parts if decide to eliminat yours.:Brow:
Nate, thats funny, we're all working on the same thing...I made up a harness design that plugs into the factory top harness and takes main power off the fuseblock with one wire to the relays, no splicing anywhere. I used two 30 amp, 12 volt radio shack relays, just haven't figure out where to mount them yet.... I think JW is working on a kit as well.... later Tim
Yeah, I ended up running a 6ga. cable back to the pump area since I'm also going to put my stero amp back there, I'm gonna install a terminal strip and relay bank right to the seat back tower. So all my switch will be doing is turning the relays on a off. Going to install a fusible link on the 6ga cable where it picks up power under the hood for circiut protection.
