Have a four year old open trailer with two original and two newer Chinese bias ply tires rated for the weight. I'm thinking it is time to replace the tires. Any recommendations ? I'm pulling with a relatively light vehicle, should I stick with bias ply tires that are reportedly more stable, or go with radial tires to improve the selection and odds of getting good tires. Thanks
There are a lot of good radial tires for trailer applications, my travel trailer has Goodyears on it, about six years old and haven't had any problems. Just make sure you get the right weight rating, and keep them inflated correctly. About time for me to replace mine, not due to wear-out, but age. I've been told seven to eight years is the limit.
I put bias ply tires on mine because they were like $5/tire cheaper. Now I wish I got radials because they absorb more of the vibrations/bumps.
I just put new tires on my trailer. Don't remeber the brand off the top of my head but they are load range D rated and can run up to 60 psi in them. Like stated above stay away from passenger car tires. They do not have to load rating and will not be safe. I've been told to stay away from Carlisle brand as well.
I have BFG car tires on my trailer and use 40psi and they have done great , no problems . I need to replace them because of age not tire problem . have been hauling GSX on it so not a lite weight .
I get trailer specific tires from Discount Tire locally. I tried a few times to go the internet route but Discount was and is cheaper and less hassle. Last pair I bought were called green ball. They are 10 ply rated load range E 225/75-15. I get good service from them and they run about $100 each.
