Has any one gone through the hassle of adding a rear oil pressure gauge to their 350 or 455? Is it really a smart idea? If there is a 10 to 15 psi difference in pressure from the front sending unit to the rear of the block which one would you tune your engine for to get 10 psi? If any one doesn't know what I'm talking about you can check out the procedure at

    Thanks for any help.

I added the oil pressure line to the back of my block and am really happy with the results.
I modified what Dave Knutsen did by not drilling in the top and tapping it etc. Instead I just removed the rear galley screw plug, and used a tight 45 available at the local Napa auto parts store. I ran braided stainless steel flexable line to the gauge inside the car and away we go. It is a very easy thing to do and gives me a little more peace of mind.
I have some pictures if you would like me to email you?

Rick I would really appreciate it if you could send me a picture of your oil gally set up. It would help me to decide if I want to add a secondary oil gauge. Did you have any problems with clearance? How did you get the line through the bell housing? Finally how much difference did you see in pressure from the front of the block to the rear? Thanks for the response by the way. I look forward to seeing your set up.

    Jason,
There was more than 1/2 an inch of clearance from the flywheel. There are a couple of different size elbows, just find the one that is shorter. You will see with my pictures.
I ran my line horizontal, and out the drivers side of the bellhousing. That made it so I could just run the line right into the exsisting firewall hole and direct connect to the gauge. I think it was a 1/2 drill bit with some touch up with a grinder.
The first block that I did this to, I didn't use a long enough ss flexible line and originally had it just long enough to pass through the bellhousing. It made it a little more difficult to connect up to when the engine was installed in the car.
The next block, I used a 24" long line which was long enough to go all the way to my oil gauge.
As far as the difference between the two, I haven't checked it because it was a new block.
The pictures are not compressed, and I dont have a program to compress them. Email me your address, and I will email them to you.
