I took apart the rear end yestarday to get ready to send it out to be blasted and powder-coated. It is for a 1971 GS, Stage 1. After I removed the axles and the carrier, I noticed that there was a small piece of the metal missing at the end of the tube next to the bearing seat. I tried to send a photo last night but the system locked up. The other side has a small slit at around the same edge. I was wondering if this is a serious problem, or is it o.k. to rebuild as is. When the axle was removed, it seemed to have more "gunk" on it then the other side. I will try to download a photo later to show what I am talking about.

If anyone has a photo of the inside of the housing please post it.

    Thanks.

Do you think its an old chip, maybe when the axle tube was pressed into the housing at production?

The only pic I have is with the cap on. This weekend I will look at that area on mine.
