    66 442 W30 Air cleaner

This is the Holy Grail for Olds collectors. There were only 54 of these made in the factory (all serialized on the air cleaner) but you could get them over the counter at the dealer as a Trak Pak kit.

Still very rare as 1966 was the only recent year for tripower. Last one I heard of that was for sale (4 years ago), was going for $4500. Haven't seen or heard of one since. 67's look the same on top, but are for the 4 barrel and not quite as rare. Still big bucks, though (like $2k+)

    Crazy E-bay prices

Here are some e-bay prices I saw over the past year.

4 NOS trim rings for 14x7 GM wheels $610.00 (still available from GM for about $60.00 ea.)

Underdash 8 track for 70-72 Cutlass $650.00 (now selling for 200-250 range.)

    7040255 W-31 Carb $1135.00

    7041253 442 and W-30 4 speed carb 1971 $1050.00

    NOS Daytona wing $4600.00.

Yenko or COPO XT wheels. $1000 set. Also came on most GM cars with disc brakes i.e 1969 Firebird. 1970 442 and 1971-1972 Cutlass with FE2 option. If hung up on date codes look at the firebirds. XT was not unique to Chev. (I can feel the heat on this one already)

Los of people will also pay over list value for parts they are TOLD are nos ,however are still avilable through GM Resto group or AC Delco. You need to do your homework

    Speaking of recall wheels

The steering wheel on my GTX is the "recall" wheel. They were recalled because ladies were getting their dainty little digits caught in the gaps between the spokes and breaking them or worse.
I have never seen another one on a car. The problem is that they have their own unique center cap, and mine has a Dodge emblem on it. :ball:
I would kill for center cap for a 67 Plymouth recall wheel!:blast:

Do we want to talk rare or expensive? Have you seen what the price of original Hurst Wheels are going for on evil-bay? Granted, they are cool, but they make the price of those outragious spinning wheels almost seem plausible!:Dou:

..and I bet they're well guarded

I think I know where a couple of those are. I've got a set of the original 1966 W30 bumper scoops if you find an aircleaner for the black car. I sure can't afford one.

    Rare or desirable?

Do we need to be reminded of Jeff Sawruk's description of what's rare and what's desirable?

Did you see where a guy found one that had been on a V8 boat.

    Since you mentioned it...

I failed to list some of the "special" items that belong only to the '69 H/O that can be rare to find!

'D' Heads of course were mentioned $1500/ set
The one model only intake, basically an iron version of what became the '70 W-30 aluminium intake $?
The racing mirrors that were only seen on the H/O and the SC/Rambler, about $2000 a set.
The Flapper door lid for the H/O air cleaner (the vacuum motor carries a F%$d part #) about $1500.
The correct 'OH' code Turbo 400 (the only true way to identify a '69 H/O) $?
The big weight distributor that was special to the H/O (can you believe I don't remember the part numbers to some of this stuff)
The above mentioned 15" chrome rim SS II wheels (only the '69 H/O had them) $700- 900 set of 5:sleep:

It seems only the 4 3/4 wheels are worth the big bucks.Ive got a set of 4 1/2 wheels I bought from the orig owners son. They are the nicest unrestored wheels I've seen. They came with brand new rings and caps still in the wax paper.I live in Glenside Pa which is where hurst started so its not uncommon to bump into people that worked for hurst. Now that I think about it two of my friends fathers worked for him as well as the guys father I got the wheels from. When my father was young he would hang out at Georges shop.I remember when I was a kid my dad bought a snowmobile off of George,it was his wife Lila's.I remember it was lettered with the big H on the hood with "Lila" on the sides.Years later my dad sold it to a guy at work who took it to his mountin house.A few years later it burned down. What would that be worth? When I was in high school I bought a South Bend lathe out of a rivet shop that used to supply rivets to hurst.Maybe my lathe made the rivets that are in my wheels

I had a complete set-up for a 66 W-30, including linkage, carbs, air cleaner, etc. I took it off a wrecked olds in a junkyard while I was looking for seat patterns. I tried to buy the whole car, but the guy refused to sell it to me. He did charge me $35.00 for it though. Sure would like to find another.
Same yard was using a 66 Mercury Cyclone fiberglass hood as a skid to haul parts around in the snow. I bought the skid too.

I am ready to deal if you still have it!

  18. NOS 68/69 Buick console lids are mighty rare, not worth a fortune, but you never see one for sale. And most original ones are cracked.

    Jim,
I sold that set-up for $1800 at Carlisle in 1985. I put it out on the table and it lasted a whole 20 minutes before it was sold. Sorry.

    Conservative estimate

    Tripower setup, complete, not detailed..........$2500
    W30 Aircleaner...............................................$4000
    Bumper scoops (originals).............................. $500

That'd be a nice profit on the $35 investment, Duane. I paid $1500 for my tripower about 5 years ago, and we bought the one on Jim Lore's car for $800 about 10 years ago. :TU:

Ever notice how Roger Doehring never leaves his car unattended at the Pure Stock meets? I swear that man never pees. :Brow: :Brow:
