Rick, I use a 1 quart fuel tank (actually a breather tank) small electric pump and a nitrous nozzel installed in one of the spacers. This allows the car to start and run briefly on gas and long enough to get the mechanical pump flowing to run on the alcohol but you can not drive it very far (maybe on and off the trailer) on gas like with the plate system. My exhaust has bungs in all the cylinder tubes but I usually only check one at a time. I have been thinking about a data logger to monitor all the cylinders:dollar: . I do not remember the temp exactly but I think somewhere around 1375 degrees. It only hits that temp for a second since the setup is too fat (rich) once I pass the 330' mark. This allows me to maximize my low end. I have purchased a high speed bypass to lean out the motor down track to also maximize the top end without changing the low end (I have not installed it yet). I ordered the Ron's Toilet and other parts from a local shop (Maryland Performance Center) and he (George Reggio) selected the components to match my 494". They also installed a fuel cell in the front of my car for the Toilet. http://www.marylandperformance.com/ Mike
Mike fails to mention that he took the system off because it got gummed or coroded up and wouldn't run anymore. So he has converted back to a carb......
I know this sounds funny, but the "Toilet" doesn't work? I've never seen one in person, but I've wondered about those things. Is this aka the "Flying Toilet"? ElectraJim
Bruce is talking out of his azz like usual (he could be in politics the way he leaves out pertinent information). The motor was running too fat on the top end. I had not raced the car in over a year and I did not have a chance to fine tune the combo before the next race (the only rain of the summer) so I went back to a known combination (It did win at Cecil with both gas and alcohol). I will reinstall the toilet when I have time to work with the high speed bypass (lean-out). Bruce will tell you that the motor idles smoother and at a lower RPM on alcohol. The throttle response is much better than gas and it goes .05 quicker in the first 60' (so far). The car also runs more consistent with alcohol. I did get a lot of milky looking stuff in the valve covers and oil. I also did lose MPH but once I install and configure the bypass it will actually pick up on both ends of the track. Mike
Sounds like you are talking about yourself!!! Then why did you call me and say you couldn't keep it running on the alcohol then scramble to convert it back to carb before the race?
The other Dave says this I've run methanol for a number of years . Mechanical injection , enderle hat . It is more consistent, falls off less in the heat. It will milk the oil if you run it rich so be prepared to change your oil more often. You need to make sure your fuel system is methanol safe anodized or brass fittings. Use some top lube, if the car will sit around for more than a few weeks I pull the lines and spray barrel valve etc with WD40. If you go mechanical do spend the time and money for flowed pills and nozzels much better tune up. I like it , suits my application fine and at $165 a barrel it's cost effective Dave That might explain your valve covers Rick
Hey Dave glad to here your still running the car! Maybe our paths will cross this summer. [/QUOTE] I do not remember the temp exactly but I think somewhere around 1375 degrees. EGT's are slow to react and almost always peak at the end of the track , are you sure your not lean all the way through? Dave
Dave, I must be mistaken about the 1375 degrees because I am sure it was too rich down track (maybe it was closer to 1200?). It has been almost 2 years since I last ran the car on alcohol but I hope to have it back on this year. What temp should it be? Thanks Mike carcrazy455@yahoo.com
i have found egt to vary a lot by timing, probe placement, header size, use egt to balance cyclinders but reading a plug never lies
Boosterboy Not yet still compiling motor parts. HP is going to be made in steps, aluminum heads are one of the last steps and that where I am going to get the final compression #s. About ready to do the short block going with AMP's Pontiac rods with his flat top pistons zero decked. Searching for heads now, I know of a few 430's around got to go check them out. But its been so dang cold here.... Thanks Rick
