Hi everyone I'm new to the forum, I have a buick 455 that I used to race in Brisca f1 in the UK, it's been sat for 10 years and I'm considering rebuilding it. Its 4.375 bore x 3.93 stroke, 7.2" chevy BB rods, TA oil pump assembly, TA 608s cam, TA 1410b lifters, TA 1.60 roller rockers. A homemade intake manifold, we aimed for 10.5:1 compression This will all be stripped and checked before rebuild but the bottom end hasnt done much since this full build but the big decision is heads, we were running standard cast heads with bigger stage 1 intake valve and some porting and getting approx 450hp but I'm now looking at ally heads and aiming for a lot more power. TA have said they have heads but not currently offering porting so I'm looking for someone willing to prepare some fully ported and assembled heads and shipped to the uk. I will also be going through all the required oil mods and possibly a block girdle and lifter bore girdle if we get some high flowing heads. Tmez came over to race in our sport recently so This may give you some idea of the type of racing although this is pavement and I usually race dirt I'd like to hear your thoughts....
Nice! I'm not the one to really know but 450 HP sounds a bit low. Crank or at the RW's? I think the 10.5 to 1 comp is hurting you. That 608's shows a just about a full out race cam. Also the heads need more porting which your addressing. I'm not sure if TA has any AL heads in stock, have you contacted them? Very cool video..
450hp was at the crank and yes it is low but I think most of that is down to the heads. I am hoping to increase the 10.5:1 comp during the rebuild but I'm limited to how high I can go because of the fuel we're allowed to use. I contacted TA and they said asssembled heads could be delivered by end of the year if ordered now but they're not offering any porting because of the time it takes.
Dowsy, do you know UK Mike? Mike bought the late BrunoD's roller race car and put his own 462 BBB in it. He should be racing it somewhere in the UK. Here is the For Sale Thread with pictures. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/brunods-race-car-and-trailer-for-sale.372387/ https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?members/uk-mike.60918/ Bruno passed on November 6, 2023. He was a big Buick Racer all his life. Everyone knew Bruno and his Race Car. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/rip-bruno-dipaola-my-friend-and-so-much-more.390416/
hi larry, no i dont know ukmike , the racing im involved with is all oval racing so i dont get to the drag strip
its special isn't it. it was built by the previous owner so I cant take any credit for it but id like to put it on some ported ally head and see what it can do
So any recommendations for who can supply complete/ ported new aluminium heads for me? from scouring this forum I see Jim Weise is a Buick guru so ill be asking him. and I've also seen scott brown mentioned
Scott Brown https://www.buyracingparts.com/cnc-ported-heads/cnc-ported-buick-cylinder-heads-1.html Bobb Makley https://www.finishlinemotorsports.com/
No I can't replace that intake, that gives the engine it's character hopefully I can get it to work when I get new heads on it
Anybody got any opinions on whether this carb would be good for my build? I've Been offered it for a good price. I'm told it's 950cfm.
Just my opinion, but if you do roundy round Racing and will be on/off throttle a lot, then you will get faster throttle response by a 4150. If you run WOT all the time, the Dominator might be better if set up right.
