What finish does the choke housing have on a 70 455?

Also, a source for the gasket that goes between the stove and the manifold.

For a 70 there is no gasket since it is not open to the exhaust crossover

    They are gold/yellow plated

Thanks - how about the gasket for a 72 455? It is a 72 motor, I just wanted it to look like a 70. I did not realize they made a change to the design!

I usually just make sure both surfaces are as flat as I can get them, then use red RTV.

Or, just buy some exhaust gasket material and make your own gasket. It isn't hard.

I have two of those "chimney gaskets" that i will sell one to a customer. I will list them in "for sale" section.

Choke housing were gold as mentioned. I say it’s imperative to use a heat resistant gasket on 71-72 style intake. RTV is a joke and will blow out in five minutes. That’s exhaust gas!!! It can come into the interior and kill you!!! Check Cars listings. Someone was making those gaskets. There is a cup that needs to go in first under the choke housing. Original there was an asbestos gasket. I had an NOS cup with asbestos gasket in place years ago.

Note that the cup/stove is stainless. Bolts and cover are mild steel.

As rusty as the cups are when I take them off not sure it was stainless? NOS cup I had was plated zinc I would say.

Interesting - on this 72 Riv motor the cup is non-magnetic. I assume it is stainless.

Could be? I scuba dive and I have seen stainless spoons and forks on the bottom of the ocean rusted.

The NOS cup I had wasn’t shiny like stainless

I’m wondering if cup is aluminized like good exhaust systems? Not sure if those are magnetic?

stainleess steel comes in about 4 different versions,it has to do with the balance of steel, nickel and chromium that makes up the stainless.400 alloy will rust after about 5 yrs...304 takes longer....and 316L will last for years...there another one after that but i dont have that much info on it.

I have a local place called Tampa Rubber and Gasket Co. that carries a heat, fuel and oil resistant gasket to make your own. 72 and 73 uses the same gasket due to having A.I.R. system. Definitely will leak without one on those two years.
