Prepping my frame

I wouldn’t exactly call it race car tech, but just what I like to do to some of my frames that are NOT for a concours resto. I’m getting my frame ready for the silver 70 GS. Started out as a convertible frame, opened up passages for fuel lines, cables, etc, boxed and gusset rear crossmember, pinched the wheel arches for better tire clearance, and angled the rear section to clear larger exhaust better. Now to finish deburring and smoothing, and off to get powder-coated.

Installed all my lines. I had Inline Tube bend up a 1/2” stainless fuel line. Not sure if I will even use it,but it’s a lot easier to install without the body on the frame. I enlarged the openings in the frame for this reason. I know the supply is supposed to go above the other ones, along the frame rail, but it didn’t have enough bends to do that.

    12-lives,
I was planning on getting the inner wheelhouses from ABC Performance, that look just like OEM inners, but give you 1.5” more width. However, the stock inners will be fine, and I don’t have to cut a rust-free car. The twists and curves in the frame arches were the sections that stuck out the furthest, and came the closest to the sidewall of the tires.

Following this. I'm about to pull the body off my 65 hardtop frame. Going to box it in myself and looking for info and ideas of what I should do while I have it all apart. Looked up and performance, lots of good stuff. Some of it I can Fab up myself.

Get the ABC performance boxing kit. Will save you so much work. If you need pics let me know.

It’s a pretty good kit,but I fabbed all of my own braces and gussets for the rear of the frame. I did a lot more than what their kits offered.

what are the intended uses for that frame? is that a race only frame? Or is it "as long as i have it all apart"? at what point of a performance build should reinforcing like that be done?

    B-rock,
It’s one of those “while I have it apart,do it once”. This will be a street-driven car, with an occasional trip to the track. All steel, full interior, not a potato chip.

Thanks for posting these great pics.
We did a couple upgrades long ago on my Chevelle.
You gave me more ideas. Not to worry. My 70 Chevelle SS396 sleeps next to his brother 70 GS350.
Buick is big brother by 2 months, lol.
