    Hey Guys,

working on finishing up my 68 GS Convertible

My Power windows are very slow, seem to do a little better when I rev the engine and the headlights seem dim. Car runs great and engine doesnt seem to be starving for power.

New Battery and Alternator pushing 14 volts. Thinking I have a ground issue or a bad ignition switch or Headlight switch. All the window switches are original also. Not sure how I test those things,

Any suggestions on where I should look for the main chassis grounds? Anything else I should check?

    Appreciate any ideas

Its not voltage but amperage that moves things. Over the years the old wires have built up some resistance so it takes more amps to move it. I replaced my alt with a high output unit and now my windows go up and down like new. Another thing to check is if your tracks and rollers are clean and moving freely.

We have a Starter / Alt shop here in town and Greg put 120A guts in my old chrome case. Im sure summit would have something like a power master that would work for you.

Clean the tracks and regulators and lubricate. I had a 1984 Corvette that the windows would only go up with the car running and some assistance by hand. The GM service bulletin said to replace the 84-5 regulators with 86 style at a cost of $400+ each. I thought you know, they didn't work that slow when new, so why are they going slow now. I took the regulators out, used brake clean on everything and used Permatex brake lube on everything except the actual channels. They worked perfect. That white lube that GM used gets hard and dirt sticks in it. I would just try to use brake clean with the regulators in the car first, but I would blow the brake clean dry before trying to operate the windows so there's no explosion! . Don't use anything thick or paste like in the glass slides, use spray silicone there.
