cray1801 Too much is just right.

"Stick" with it Shawn and the rewards could exceed expectations. Driving finesse with the 4-speed will be needed however :TU:

  2. I hit the 11s with 399 at 4800 RPM at the wheels.

Not sure what the final number would have been as the dyno showed valve float at 4700.

You should be able to get there Shawn.

Stage 2 was driven to E-town on 285/70-15 BFGs and 3.73 gears....180 miles EACH way 10.50s

When it had iron heads I drove it to the Nats with 2.56 gears and switched out housing to 3.90 gears (housing with no axles fit in back seat area), left backing plates on car (no brake bleeding!), used same axles. This was done at the Holidome motel. 10.90s.....over 15 years ago.:Dou:

Haha, thanks. There will definitely be a learning curve rowing the gears on the strip (I've only ever run bikes on the 1320), but that's half the fun right!
I'd be lying if I said you weren't one of my mentors when it comes to this Paul! If I had a nickel for every time I've studied your videos....well...I'd have a lot of nickels. Maybe we can meet up at an event and you can give me a tutoring session....haha.

  6. Definitely. Maybe at the BPG event this year.

Thanks for the compliment, although I'm not Engie Bauza, or Dick Landy....I have gotten better since the videos, and with the new Go Pro, I should have some new videos this year.

I'm hoping BPG this year will be the christening for this car actually, I'll be there regardless though. In just like your style, go fast without unnecessarily abusing your equipment. I have a similar approach.

Is their any chance the spreadsheet could be used as a sticky and still be able to have new combo's added by John..

It would be a nice quick reference tool for new builds and comparisons of motors for future builds...

    thanks,..

One thing i notice is nobody runs 12.sec with a 3.07 rear end or in a 4500 lb Rivi. I plan to break through this barrier. Is this possible?

there are several combos in the mid to low 11's at 3900 to 4100lb with mild gearing , take those combos and subtract 6to a full sec and you have 12's

    Do you mean 12.00 with 3.07? I've gone 12.60s with 2.56 gear.

Poor man's overdrive. T350, 2 speed for racing and 3 for cruising. I originally did it for some long distance runs I was making then realized it was good for racing 1/4 mile as I can sneak thru in 2nd. Made the car more consistant than going thru another shift. I actually qualified for the bracket finals in the Super Pro class (electronics) that year without any electronics myself. Just something I wanted to prove.....

i think the aluminum power glide 2 speed is a very popular drag tranny.

I think BQUICK means he just uses 2 gears for the strip with the 2.56's and 3rd gear is quasi-OD on the highway.

I have a 3.07 one legger, 68 Riv GS , I removed all the tar-paper off floor and replaced it with a bucket of truck bed coating, and a roll of that 1/2 in thick thermal heat barrier stuff, the one that is white feels like a blanket , one side aluminumy. I think removing the interior and sitting on a crate is worth half a sec.

I always wanted to try 256 gears in my buick , im sure it would still run mid to high 11s

    Hi folks,

I would like to get your opinions of the top speed of a 70-72 Lark w/ a stick shift (zero slippage) w/ this gear ration in a stock Stage 1 and a typical build around 500 h.p.

140 m.p.h.? At some point it will be drag-limited.

You will need to provide you tire size measured from the ground to the top of the tire, your gear raitio, and the rpm max of your motor.
