Here's a picture of my post before I submitted it. The code tag uses a fixed font where all the characters are the same size so how it looks before you post is how it looks after you post (mostly!) It's still a good idea to Preview so you can tweak it if needed.

The code button is a number sign (#), I circled it in red in the picture.

Also, you can select the text you want, then press the button and the tags will be inserted around the text.

    Hi folks,

just a reminder to be carefull when comparing flow numbers from different head porters and flow benches. I just got my Bulldogs back recently from a
head porter whose name you would all recognize.

He didn't flow them out of the box, as he ordered them bare. I was shooting for between 500-550 h.p.

After his "level one" porting job, the heads, w/o a header flow tube, were 310/185 at .500" lift. the "185" ported exhaust number is the same one mentioned in this post as an "out-of-the-box" flow number. Obviously, I could have paid more to get bigger numbers, but feel it wasn't necessary for my goal.

Overall, my head porter was impressed with how little time he had to spend on the intake side, but disappointed on how much time he needed on the exhaust ports.

He was also disappointed in the overall finish quality of the heads. One head didn't have any of the exhaust-bolt holes tapped, for example, and one rocker-arm hole was not threaded deep enough. The heads also had to be milled, since the surface was a bit "rough," out of the box.

    Just my experience.

    Cheers,

    Craig,
Your head porter could not be more correct on his findings. The exhaust needs alot of work, but I did get mine over 250 at .700, NO PIPE. On the deck surfaces, I could not believe my eyes when I saw how rough they were and these were suppose to be ready to bolt on. :af:

    10 Sec.
How much material leeway is there on the exhaust port.

Re: your signature, is this the modified Stg 1 style head with the Worlds best flowing exhaust port?

Material leeway? Not sure what your asking.

This would be the baddest stage 1 style modified exhaust port in the world. :bglasses:
Hail to the King!

    Head Gasket Surface finish

    Yeah Bad maching finish sucks.

Equally unimpressive is the gasket surface finish on the semi finished T/A SE head, pictured on TSP's web site, under Product evaluations. The page 1 pic "out of the box" had the same machining finish as my bulldogs.

This may be a standard thing when you order unfinished heads from the manufacturuer. In my case I needed to reduce the cc's, so this was not an unexpected cost. Also my supplier did cut me a break because of the delivery problems.

I can share Jeffs frustration in recieving an expected final product not being satisfactory.

In the end it sounds like these heads will rock, with the flow#'s being discussed.
