Anyone had plastic interior parts rechromed lately? Who did you use? Quality? Turnaround time? I need the have these two small GTO dash vents replated. They are available as reproduction part but are not chrome plated correctly for a ‘69 (they are made like a ‘70-up).
You.might get ahold of Brian trick, he had 2 fiberglass bumpers done at a place in lima Ohio. Now it wasn't real chrome plating, but a type of silver.......buy man I swear it was only slightly less shiny than chrome. I picked the bumper up for him and I was really impressed
Someone who does spectra chrome or cosmichrome. My cosmichrome guy is in the middle of getting another painter, but hopefully will be back in business soon.
I remember,, I saw a video on youtube.... Guy that made the vid used a Chrome pen molotow or like... He cut it open used the paint in a airbrush. Looked good.. IIRC he also sprayed it with clear coat.....
www.vacuumorna-metal.com When we found this guy he was advertising plant vases and plating plastic some in chrome. After a Phone call, realized he has an extensive list of auto plastic chroming in automotive. As an example he can completely restore our cluster IP. This includes chrome plating, plastic repair and painting. Also can polish the plastic lenses if it makes sense. Gary
I used Instrument Specialties in RI about 10 years ago. I was not happy with some of what they did, especially with what they charged back then. UticaGeoff
Instrument Specialties doesn't plate. All their work is farmed out. I know where it goes. What they did was, they got the company that does the actual plating to grant them some kind of monopoly on the car stuff. You know...a lot of these platers and SS people farm their stuff out. Sometimes they prep or repair the stuff because the real platers don't want to do that. Once upon a time there was a big chrome place called Nu-Chrome in my area, they farmed their stuff out. The place in CT everybody says does good bumpers, farms them out. I suspect the place that did Adam's chrome + SS farmed one of those 2 things out. Many of these places are just middle men that add to the price. So...THAT's why Instrument Specialties vacuum plating is expensive. RI seems to be the plating middle man capitol of the world. I know several places around here that look like shops and act like shops, but they really don't plate.
They say their plating is done by Mueller Corp: https://www.instrument-specialties.com/services/plastic-chrome-bezels/
Frank- New England chrome in CT farms out. I was going to drop of a set of bumpers and they let it slip that the “truck was leaving to xx at 5 AM”. I then performed a search of that area and found the company they use. New England Chrome was tacking on 200-300/ bumper. I went direct to the company and was given a tour, saw the tanks, the process, etc. plus, saved $300/ bumper
Ok where is that??? I had mine done by them and friends Olds Bumpers are there now. I guess it’s too late. Guy did tell us they had someone else do it.
