Have any of you had experience with PJ Trailers' open car-hauler trailers? I think they're out of Texas.

I have an opportunity to purchase what looks like a very clean 18' 2008 model for a fairly reasonable price. Are they any good?

For the most part, construction looked good on the one I'm considering.

    Thanks in advance,

I think that is what my old open trailer was. I had it for a long time. Some of the wood floor rotted and I replaced, but it sat out in the open for a long time. Replace the tires if they are original. The rest of the trailer held up well, no problems.

The only other thing would be the tongue jack. Make sure it is strong enough for you. They put some on that aren't too strong.

    Dan,

Hello. I have delt with PJ. As with All trailers they have good and bad points.

Wood will always rot if not cared for. Make sure the brakes work and that it is with brakes on all 4 hubs. DOT break away box is also required.

Ck the couple for wear and that it is not bent or damaged.
Ck the ramps, if they are warped. The trailer most likley has been over loaded.

Dont know your price, but here in CO, 1500-1800 depending on condition.

The one thing I dont like, is the fenders. Most have Alum. tread plate, they look great, but do not last.

    Good luck

maybe I didn't say it clear, but the trailer was a good one. I gave it a hard work out for many years, and never had any major problems. The tongue jacks won't last when you leave them down and try to drive though.

Thanks for your input on PJ trailers, you guys.

John - I wish the owner was only asking 1500-1800 for his trailer. Hes asking $3,000 (firm!) for a 6-month old model 518 car hauler with a custom diamond plate/steel tube air dam/rock shield installed. The trailer was purchased on the east coast so the owner could transport a restored middle-60s Ford Falcon back out here. The wood, paint, ramps and diamond plate are almost perfect. The original tires are in excellent condition. Its even stored under a patio cover. Plus, hes throwing in tie down straps and harnesses (for the front wheels) and an equalizer hitch assembly. Probably a reasonable price, all considered (although I'll still try to work him down a little).

    Dan,

    No problem.

Wish I could help. 3k sounds like alot. It does have some good freebies with it. Add the straps $200, and the hitch $550 depending on model. Ft rock shield $500.

He is not far off. What people don't consider when selling a trailer is the taxes.
The add everything together and that is what they paid...Their taxes are not the next guys problem.

Hope this helps. You will not buy a new trailer like this for 3k, ever again.

    By the way, John...

Where in CO is your shop located?

Do you carry H&H Speedloader trailers, by any chance?
