Well, took the badbuik out to try and win that $10k from the Pinks All Out knuckleheads in Las Vegas back in Sept. It was damn hot, but car ran good during Friday qualifying, 9.80 @ 123 lifting early, and then a 9.60 @140. Sat with a too hot, and almost empty nitrous bottle, ran a 10.03, and then during the last pass, the "arm drop" pass at about half track I felt a shudder thru the car, let off and tried to get out of the groove, when the slipping & sliding started! Fought hard to keep off both guard rails, and then right before I got the car back in my lane, it snapped around, and I thought for sure I'd be roll cage testing! Finally stopped and had oiled down my lane pretty good, it took about 45 minutes to get it cleaned up. Looks like the #3 rod bearing spun, seized, and pulled the rod out of the piston, and jambed that rod thru the side of the oil pan..So now I have a nice, custom BBB boat anchor, and it can be yours for $2000, that should be enough to "band aide" another block back together, and replace the busted pieces. The Pinks All Out show will air on Thanksgiving, I might make the cut, I'm the only car to put on that kinda show for the fans! Enjoy the pics.......... Gary G.
Dang 'cous!! Sorry that happened. I am proud of you however. Someday a Buick WILL win the 10G on Pinks All Out! ElectraJim
:dollar: Yeah, that'll cost a few bucks. Any idea why it pitched the rod? Did it have a lot of laps on it? What rods were you running? Hurts just looking at the pictures!
HOLY CRAP Gary! That cylinder wall appears to be "tin-foil" thin from your pic. What bore size was it? Did you sonic check the block before the boring took place? I also notice that you did not fill the block for cylinder wall support...no offense and sorry to say but it was a "disaster-waiting-to-happen-from-the-beginning"! On the flip-side....nice runs and good showing though!:TU:
Holy cow! What was the percentage of Nitro you were running. I'm sure you gave it all you had, and the Buick community should be proud!
Dang Gary! It was nice meeting you down there... I had no idea you trashed the motor that bad.... I don't think my buddies got any footage of your car like they did GS455Davids... I'll have to check and see if they got your first run on saturday, or possibley your 2nd run. Here's a little video footage they made from out trip down. It was a great tiem, and I'd really like to do it again some day... Sorry for your missfortune, but on the bright side, Your car shoudl be in CarCraft in Jan ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl5h39EtFww#GU5U2spHI_4 --Rich
wow. that sucks man. can anybody tell me why whenever you see a really bad failer, its always the #3 piston that does it? is that like a weak point in the oiling system or something?
Way to be Kickin' Out the Jams with a little Rage on the ol' short bus. Represent, keep up the Jolly Ol' Englishman too, some day I will be giving you folks a good Rogering.
Funny you guys say that, I think #3 is what I lost too LOL But my (cheapie stock) rods looked like this:
Hey Gary Sorry to hear about your motor!!! But Congrats on the Car Craft article!!! :TU: Your car waves the Buick Flag proudly. You showed them how we do it in California!!!
Holy S^it man! Thats awsome! sorry to say, but damn, that impressive! Show them all that a Buick will never lay down and take it. Get that girl back on the road, and claim that 10G!
Congrats on the Car Craft spread:kodak: ......At least you got some glory out of it. :idea2: Make sure to show the Mrs. the article. Then talk her into sponcering you:dollar: ....o No:
