Funny story about the 69, but that's for another thread.... This is a 70 GS-455 I bought for $900. The story and pictures are in this thread. Another weird story- http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/see-these-cars-find-me.301515/
So tomorrow is the day I swing the engine and trans back in the car. I was finally able to zip up the dash today and take care of a bunch of odds and ends in preparation for tomorrow. I cleaned up the bellhousing and heli-coiled 2 bad threads in it using a drill press to make sure they got drilled straight. And I degreased the crosssmember in mineral spirits. I cant wait to drive this POS!
Yep! I got an M&H back up switch installed and a used safety switch. Waiting on the jumper harness from Fusick. Even though I had all the major parts in stock, I was surprised how many little ancillary items I needed procure Once Im done, your going to be hard pressed to tell it wasn't an original 4 speed car.
Today I bolted up the flywheel, clutch and tranny and swung it back into the GS. Its sitting on the mounts. Mission accomplished. I couldn't help but bolt the shifter to the tail shaft. Its now a bench seat 4 speed! I'll snap some pics tomorrow.
Here you go Taulb....I really need to hire a photographer to document all this work I do. Here's the dirty 455 back in the frame and naturally a shot of the factory shifter coming through the floor.
Quick update- the project is progressing nicely. I was able to button up the interior Saturday and got all the accessories back on the engine on Sunday. On the trans hump, I gave it a thick coat of brush on seam sealer like the factory did and them misted on a coat of Bamboo cream. The Fusick boot fit well. Looks factory! Were now onto the rear axle swap.... And here's a shot of the 4 speed linkage complete with the reverse lockout rod and back drive. Aside from the 1/2 and 3/4 levers that are repro the rest is all OE Buick. I left the grease on my $325 Muncie. I didn't want it looking too good!
