Performer vs stock 1970 intake (both port matched). Is it worth it?

Other than weight savings, is the Performer worth the cost and how much HP to expect in a 500 HP build?

According to JW in regards to this exact question a while back there is no real difference other than the weight.

I thought the b4b was 5 HP and performer was a wash

I dont know about the B4B but the performer was no advantage other than lightening my wallet of $400

    I know nothing a 70 intake..
67 intake. vs performer. approximately 1'' taller on the carb base.... Both bolt patterns Qjet and Holley........ heat riser is blocked. If you ever have to R&R the performer you dont need a engine hoist..
FWIW. Ken @everyday performance asked me specifically what intake I have for when he recalibrated my carb... BTW works GREAT....

If you’ve lifted both of them then you’ll understand why the performer is worth it lol

Just a clarification.. the performer or B4B will run right with a stock mildly worked/cleaned up 70 Iron manifold, when the edelbrocks are port matched.. They are small out of the factory, and we are assuming the motor that Ray is talking about here, with the STG 1 SE Alum head.. or that port dimension in a ported iron head.

That port matching in the edelbrocks was worth 15 HP on a 525 HP motor.. we actually ran the out of the box performer on the dyno, switched to another manifold, and nthen port matched the Performer while we worked with other intakes... and then went right back to the performer for the last test of the day.. no other changes. I was surprised it was so much..

So port match your performer/B4B intakes, it's worth the effort.

I know there is someone (or 2) that can equalize the B4B runners. How much gain is that worth? What is really done to the manifold?

The performer has far more consistent port area in its construction , especially over the iron intake !
Even if max power between all three intakes was basically a wash the performer below peak power rpm will provide more even mixture of air and fuel to all the cylinders with the result being better throttle responce at any given rpm.
