Where does the hose that comes off the pcv valve attach? Its been hanging off the motor since i got the car and i still have no idea where it goes
It wraps around the passenger side of the carb and plugs into the large port at the bottom of the Quadrajet. There is a pre-formed hose that has the correct bends.
No. The PCV needs to draw from the crankcase with vacuum. Find a full time source either on the carb or intake and adapt to it.
I guess I’ll try and adapt it in the line from the vacuum booster. That’s the closest thing I could think of attaching it to.
There are two places on the stock manifold that have vacuum. The power brake one, of course, and another in the middle rear that provides vacuum for the transmission modulator. Either will work for your PCV hose.
You can't install a Holley carburetor onto a stock intake without an adapter. The exception to that would be the Holley Quadrajet replacement with a spread bore bolt pattern. In that case, there would be a vacuum nipple at the front for the PCV. If it is a Holley square bore carburetor with an adapter, drill and tap a hole in the adapter plate. Then install a 3/8" vacuum nipple. I would put the nipple at the back of the adapter. That way, you can use a short length of 3/8" fuel line hose directly to the PCV valve.
Not sure if you mean the hose is attached to the intake with nowhere to go, or attached to the carb with nowhere to go. Your carb should have a pcv port specifically for that purpose, it's a large nipple in the rear that fits pcv hose. The intake should also have vacuum ports in the back that the brake booster and transmission connect to. The brake booster port should fit the pcv hose. You can either get a T connector and use the same port the brakes do, or drill your own pcv hole and put a grommet. I strongly advise not driving around without any pcv. Unless your valve covers are open to the atmosphere (you can get filters for the oil filler holes), you're damaging your motor
Agreed, the PCV system keeps the oil cleaner as well as preventing a buildup of pressure in the crankcase. That pressure buildup can cause oil leaks.
I got the car how it is so I’m going at it little by little in the small increments of time I get after or before work. I don’t have time to spend fixing stupidity from previous owners all at once. They had the Pcv line running into the breather hose on the passenger valve cover when I got it so I replaced the actual hose and put a breather on. I see no nipple on the adapter for the carb when looking at it so I’ll run it into the brake vacuum for now.
No it’s the stock air cleaner assembly. I’m not going to drill and tap the plate I don’t have the time or tools to do it.
There should be a hole in the intake near the firewall with a soft grommet that the pcv valve goes into. You shouldn't have to tap into the brake nipple. I'm curious how they fit the stock air cleaner on a Holley. Does the choke operate properly?
It was a Holley made for Buick motors. I asked jegs when I called for a rebuild kit. It was one of a few with the correct Buick linkage. Yes choke works properly.
Found where it was supposed to attach and put it on. Car runs perfect now except for the dieseling when shutting it off because we didn’t know to check the carb and thought it was out of tune. It will be nice to finally drive it tomorrow after I put it on the road.
Havent gotten that far yet. I work at 1 tomorrow going to drive it to work and hope the one guy that i work with might show up like he did earlier and help me tune it while theres nothing going on.
