Passenger remote door mirrors?

I am disabled and was wondering if any of the 70-72 A-bodies came with a remote mirror? I thought I read about a GS convertible that has one. Not sure if it was factory.

Nope. Possible that something could be made to work.

You might be able to make one from parts of others. I’m pretty sure the sport mirror housing was used on cars with remote passenger mirrors operated by cables, and I think a year or two of Corvette had power remote in the same head. I know the non-sport style ovally chrome unit (after the Buick shield was deleted) was available with cable remote on big cars (wife’s ‘85 Impala had one).

My brother owned a 1971 Monte Carlo that had dual remote sport side mirrors. The passenger one was an option.

Find a mid to late 80's full size GM car with dual remote sport mirrors. They will have the same design as the A/G mid-size cars, but a longer operating cable, and USUALLY the entire mounting section on the dash is removable. Just make a bracket, and put it below your dash, especially if you have other auxilliary gages. You most definitely WILL have to drill two small holes for those style mirrors, as they use posts, and one larger hole to run the operating mechanism through. It technically CAN be done with three small holes if you are handy and are willing to disassemble the mechanism to go through a small hole, but it is not worth the trouble. Just go for the hole for the remote pivot and two small holes for the posts.

The problem is the later year mirrors are wider and taller, and who knows what the angle of the lower housing is where it meets the door skin. You may end up making custom wedge shaped gaskets to get the angle right.

The bottom line is they will not look right once installed.

I had a 77 Monte Carlo with l&r remote sport mirrors, but they would be taller and wider then the ones for our cars.

GM was putting them on everything with 4 wheels back then.

    You are wrong about that.

I looked at tons of original GM sport mirrors before I wrote my article about the 70-72 Buick A-body sport mirrors and there were many differences.

The GM mirrors I looked at, that were newer then our sport mirrors, had a different size mirror assembly. GM made the mirror glass “longer” so the mirrors stuck out further from the car. This required expanding the upper housing out from the car as well, so the longer mirror could swivel in the housing.

You cannot put the mirror part of these mirrors in the earlier housings because they will hit the smaller upper housing and will not allow the mirrors to be adjusted.

If you place a 70-72 and a later mirror against each other, you will see that the later mirror is a lot longer.

Some 70's Trans Am's had a passenger side remote.
I cannot remember which years had it.
