I recently purchased a new stainless steel parking brake kit. I also purchased at least two full sets of brake hardware from OPG, for the life of me I cannot figure out how the cable is connected to the shoe. I threw out the old shoe and brake assemblies a while ago, I thought I had some photos, but I don't. All my manuals do not show the rear drum assembly instructions. The instructions with the brake parts is eligible. Please send me a photo (or two) of the brake assembly.

For those who don't know, its a 1971 GS.

    Doesn't sound good...

    Len,
Did you remove the emergency brake arms from the shoes before you threw out the old ones? There is one on each side and the are held onto the shoes with horseshoe-like clips.
If you didn't remove those, and they are not on the new shoes, you will need to get some from a boneyard. I don't think that they are available in the aftermarket. The shouldn't be too difficult to find.
Now, if you do have them, and they are on the shoes already, I think they should go on the rear (secondary) shoe, along with the adjuster arms. There should be a channel for the brake cable to slide in to, and the lead ball (for lack of a better term) to lock on.
Good luck, hope you saved those pieces!

    Need some photos (again)

I purchased a new set of the parking brake levers from GM. My local Chevy dealer had them. Does anyone have a nice exploded view of the assembly? I have way too many new parts (I must have at least four sets). There are washers that I have no idea where they go. I really don't feel like putting the springs on and off several hundred times until I figure it out. I normally leave one side on at a time to refresh my memory; however, when I dismantled the car last year I didn't take any photos of the setup (it is different than my GMC.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Len
