I know that I could have posted this in the "color is everything" section but i wanted to talk to people with cars like mine...What kind of costs have you guys encountered for new paint jobs? My 79 is a low mileage car and with the exception of one pencil eraser sized rust spot on each quarter and a few small little dings on each of the doors the body is straight and solid. It is currently black and I'd like to stick with that. The estimates that I've received have been in the $4000-7000 range--that seems way too high but then again I've never had a car completely repainted professionally. Any input would be helpful (good shops in MN, ways to save money on the bill etc)

I paid almost $3500 for mine and I think I got a good deal. It wasn't a hard color (like black) and it wasn't a show car. It turned out decent, but there were some flaws I saw. I think $4000 is probably the lowest I would go and I would just expect some imperfections. If you can, you should ask to see some of their prior $4000 and $7000 jobs so you can compare them.

If you remove the trim yourself, you can save a little. Maybe you can offer to help sand.
