Getting the '73 LeSabre ready for it's yearly NY State inspection, I pulled the rear drums for a look at the brakes. I've been doing brake jobs for over 30 years and was suprised when the drums came off  . The shoes were original :jd: . I could not believe it. 81,000 miles and the original. Just thought that might be of interest.

...how'd you get tem off? I've had to modifiy various pullers (and brake drums) to get brakes half as old off

I park the LeSabre in the fall and don't touch it till spring. I had to use two screw drivers to pry the drums off, but the springs on the shoes looked almost new. Gotta keep that rubber plug in the backing plate.

  4. loosen rear drums

It sounds crazy but this works. To loosen a stuck rear brake drum, remove the wheel and lower the drum onto a couple of boards stacked up to give you about the right height. Then start the car and put it in forward and reverse a couple of times. It will break the drum loose. Works for me every time.
