My father (who is soon to be 90) just told me an interesting story about Opel. Opel was originally a German company, then bought by GM in 1929. Throughout WWII the company made a lot of trucks for the Nazis, yet it was never bombed by the Allies. Funny how targets are chosen. Sorry a little off base, but interesting.

The German Opel plant was obliterated by an Allied bombing raid August 6, 1944.

I read a lot of WW2 books. The vehicle production that the Allies were after was the Opel Blitz truck (sp?). These were troop transporters and if I recall correctly 3.5 tons in size.

Henry Ford was a great admirer of Adolf Hitler and vice versa. They shared a hatred of Jewish people. Neither attempted to hide their feelings.

What is amazing is that on either sides of any war there is always a large percentage that disagrees with their own side, many times even a majority.
My father was in the Hitler youth and missed the draft age of 14, by two months when the European theater ended. My Grandfather whom I never met,
fought in both world wars on the German side. He didn't like Hitler. He had a short wave radio that could pick up the BBC to get "other news". Listening to the BBC in Germany during those years was a death sentence (according to my father). My Grandfather had no choice but to fight and was eventually sent to the eastern front. At the end of the War, he lost his plumbing factory of 160 employees, all his wealth and his health. My father is the definition of PTSD before it existed. He has many disturbing stories about his youth, and the couple years following, 1946 and 47, were just as hard. When my dad immigrated to the USA in 1950, he was drafted in the Korean War before he became a citizen. Luckily, instead of going to Korea, he was sent back to Europe as he could speak six different languages. As a child my father would not let me join the boy scouts, all perspective, I guess.

Sorry to hijack this thread.. I hope 70sportwagon finds his Opel wagon.

That’s the nice thing about R/C cars; you can build a fantasy vehicle for next to pocket change. My 2019 TourX (looks just like the “Opel” in the picture) doesn’t have a lot of aftermarket wheels available that I like. So, I bought the wheels and tires for another 1/10 model and proceeded to fit them using my mini lathe and some super glue. I’d LOVE to have that tire/wheel combo on my TourX.
