So yadda yadda yadda, here I am today with the MU back outa the car (Mock Up/empty block, bell housing and trans), and everything was a perfect fit. Even the 1964 crossmember and mount fit the Super T-10 in the ORIGINAL frame bolt holes! Nice... So after the stuff is out and back on the stand, I take the new clutch out for a trial spin. Its golden and slides nice on the 26 tooth spline. The pressure plate is a perfect match to the flywheel. If I we 20 again, Id hafta twist up a fatty. (Dang F word!).

The last step is the throw out bearing and its a NO-GO. The new and the old OEM bearing both measure 1.380" There is a height difference which I do get. However, the bearing retainer/throw out guide on the trans MICs up at 1.430".

So for extra credit on the reports guys, WHAT IS THE BEARING RETAINER O.D. ON A MUNCIE or a
BW Super T-10? first correct answer gets an A+ for the course, a free McDoogals gift card and many other prizes LOL.

I am tempted to pull the retainer in question off the trans, and turn it down accordingly on the lathe. Its only about .050" difference. Whatcha say guys? New bearing is on the left and the 1964 bearing is opposite. The trans was run in a 1970 SS 454 Chevelle.

Bonus question!! Do the clips on the clutch fork hold the bearing onto it or do the spring retainers go into the slot on the bearing with the fork tabs. I know the correct answer.

Not even a stab at it eh? EVERY throw out bearing Ive seen lists the bore as 1.375". I cant even find a bearing thats 1.430 on the bore. I also was unable to find a bearing retainer/bearing guide in that O.D. Looks like Im just gonna cut this one down. ws

The bearing retainer that the throw slides on are all the same size i think. The bearing on the left would be the one to use on 1967 and up i would think, the fork springs just keep it from rattling about.

    Hi,

I had a similar issue putting a muncie behind a nailhead, I had the bearing retainer turned down. Works fine.

Well, some input here! Thanks guys!! As it turns out after thinking outside the box, for whatever reason, the PO of the trans had a BBF (!!) bearing retainer/guide on the T-10 at 1.440" vs the GM at 1.375". The two bearings shown are the new one (L) and the OEM V6 (1964 9" clutch -R-). The height difference will get verified today, but I sure its as simple as the smaller diaphragm plate. It is a GM product afterall !

Im gonna do a few lathe jobs today so that'll get turned down and Ill have a nice day! I do also hafta check the radius height for full TOB release. Another MU! ws

I've played with super T-10 (10 spline), various muncies (10 and 26 spline), and Richmond overdrive (26 spline) in '67 GS's. What's the question again? Warning, it's been 15 yrs since my car(s) was (were) that far apart. BTW, the shorter throwout bearing looks more familiar.

The whole issue revolved around the T-O bearing I.D. and the front bearing cover on the trans O.D. Turns out the trans had a Ford bearing cover. Simply turned it down to a GM size and we're all happy campers now. The old bearing above was from the original 9" clutch off the V6. ws
