Hi all, I took my car down to have the body and paint done a few months ago. I rented a trailer from Uhaul and they said my '01 Suburban 1500 was ok to tow it with. I didn't have any trouble getting the car there. Now I'm ready to bring the car back but Uhaul is telling me I need a heavier tow vehicle and they won't rent me the trailer. (this was a different Uhaul than the first place, it's closer to me) So my question is, is my Suburban 1500 with factory hitch safe to tow the car with ? Thanks, Harry
Let me put it this way. I towed 7,000 lbs no problem from St. Louis back to chicago with a 2001 Chevy Suburban 2wd, 5.3 V8 w/ tow package. I think your safe. Goodluck. :TU:
call them back and see if you get someone else. that guy is an idiot. of coarse you can pull a gs on a flat bed trailer. 4000lb car and a 2000lb trailer(probably less as theirs are aluminum for the most part) that's 6000lbs. check your manual... it probably says 6500... 6000 at the least. i know mine is a 98 with 5.7 and 3.73 and is good for 6500... kinda underrated.
Your vehicle is rated to pull 6000 lbs, however if you are using the bumper your tow rating is limited to 5000lbs gross (car + trailer) because that is the rating for the bumper.
