Can this be plumbed in in line with the balance line run from the sending unit location in block to the rear passenger side lifter galley plug.?

Yes, mine is plumbed in at the oil pressure sending unit hole.Works great.

With oil pressure lower at the rear of the block, would it be better to plum it to the rear? Then that leads my thinking to the hole size. the sending unit hole allows for a bigger fitting, more volume so that would lead me to plum it there. But with the pressure dropping in to the range that the accumulator kicks in at the rear of the block first , would it then be better to plum it to the rear? My mind is see-sawing ...

You're running a balance line from the front sending unit hole, so anything plumbed into this line at the sending hole will pressurize the rear also.

Sorry to jump in here. If the unit is used as also a primer what keeps the oil from flowing back through the filter? Pump gears?
    Thanks Rick

Oil Pump Gears won't turn as long as there is a distributor/camshaft in place. The gears would have to be free wheeling in order for pressurized oil to push past them (spinning the gears in reverse direction) and backtrack down the pick-up.

I Have an elevated oil filter that drained back into the engine when I shut it off, purchased a 1\2 NPT fitting check valve, problem solved.
