Nice car, and if you can overlook the 80s Citation seat fabric reupholstery and the oddball spokes, it would be a sweetheart. Anyway, the issues are ones that can be changed easily enough, so it'd be a good start for someone who likes these models.

Vintage McCulloch blown 401/425 with finned aluminum everywhere for me ;) It doesn't need to be crazy fast, just perfectly vintage.

I find this a damned interesting question. To me, it's a 3-piece rear window; the 'pillar' isn't at the body side. It feels more like a split window Beetle or a '40s car with a split rear window to me, but I certainly could see it called either way. Buick simply called it a "divided rear window" (Olds also had this body style).

Should be a three holer, maybe they were trying for the Century look. Nice car!

At around the same time the Chrysler company was building the "forward look" and it's advertising slogan was "Suddenly it's 1960!" Rumour has it when automotive journalists who enthused about Chrysler's forward thinking sleeker bodies looked at the 57 Buick and Olds lineup, they snarkly commented "Suddenly it's 1949!"
It was a one year styling gimmick that went over like a lead zeppelin. On the Specials and Centuries you could actually detach the side posts, (a lot of people did) whereas on the senior series you couldn't.

I read that a lot of naysayers found it 'old fashioned' - I assume hearkening back to the split windshields & rear windows of the '40s/ very early '50s.

Not sure I'm following this, can you elaborate?

"Not sure they had much to brag about, behold the 300C, with what some might call Edsel tier aesthetics"

Not me, I call it absolutely stunning! Awesome looking car IMHO!............. YMMV

I'm confused about this statement too Marc......Are you saying that the rear window dividers or posts can be removed? I believe you are mistaken if that's what you were referring to.

I think this photo would verify that............

I am no expert on the subject, but if I remember correctly you could get the cars either way in '57. Personally I like them.

Looks like there were 3 treatments on the '57 Buick: the unbroken rear glass, the Special/Century variant (like the red & black job above) where the body color ran down the dividers, and the Roadmaster which had a chrome molding / no color divider. Clearly the Special/Century's dividers weren't removable, but not sure on the Roadmaster. I'm going to assume the Special/Century at least were 3 pieces of glass, not sure on the Roadmaster - seems to be 2 options just right there. Would have to dig into the issue to get to the truth:
