Hello. Some of you might know me from ClassicOldsmobile, where i write(d) as Inline. Finally i can ditch that user name, been hating it. Thats about it. I still have an 76 Cutlass S 442, which i build technically-wise to new, rear, trans and engine. But as always, life got on the way. Between that we got two childs, and the coupe turned out to be just too "tight" for all of us, especially when childs use the safety seats which take considerable amount of space, and trunk was full as fast as you opened it. Mostly for these reasons wife didnt like it, and as the hobby should be for whole family.. One of your members has been touting the superiority of Buicks for years, at every possible change ( exaggerating a little ), so i thought why not? Full size was at the search. I went on to see many ones which disappointed bad, especially when the sales text gave way different impression about the overall condition. Then last monday after work, i thought to make 7 hour road-trip to see one particular Buick, which had pretty good pictures, and sales text was only like " come and see". At the point i saw it, i said thats mine. So, meet our new hobby car, for whole family. Buick Electra Park Avenue, 1983. 99% rustfree, and believe or not, back in 83, my dad did the rust prevention to that exact same car. Interior is also 9+/10 points. Museum / classic car registered. I came a believer of full-size Buicks on one trip i must say. What a ride. So smooth and quiet. It was ordered either as Salora's, or Nokias executives car, need to order complete history of it from national archives. Keep getting conflicting information since father remembers different than grandson. I bought this anyways from the first private-owner family, from the grandson of the original owner. From the archives i got my hands on without ordering the complete archives, the car just sat on heated garage between 2000 and 2016, then it got museum registered. And after that 420kms to yesterday. And most of it came when their grandfather died, and they drove it to their place after inheriting it. I dont know Buick so well, but from what ive found so far ( havent looked extensively yet), it has 45/55 front seat, ECC, power everything, plush everything, and an 307 Olds which barely gets out of its own way. It needs work, mostly electrical stuff, and detailing, plus tank seems to leak from some seam when filled full, but im planning on to really bring this back to its full former glory. Looking forward for that journey. I added few pictures to this post, and more as attachments.
Thanks for welcomes and all the info. Im currently detailing the car, alot to clean after sitting virtually 21 years at garage.
So far found out while going the car over Drivers and left passenger PW's dont work. Cruise wont work because i have manual choke Carter 600 AFB under hood, like what, manual choke on a BUICK?????? Gas struts dead both at trunk and hood. Gas tank leaks from seam. AC wont blow cold, but otherwise the EEC seems to work, hopefully with new fluids it works again. Tires were new 2005, and different sizes and manufacturers front and rear, 225/75/15 front, 235/75/15 rear. Spare tire also is original Firestone stow-away, gets changed aswell, and to normal sized one. I had to cut that exhaust tip at slant to end under rear bumber, that one was a hideous looking thingy, as it was installed when i acquired it. Thats pretty much all flaws ive found. Unbeliavable. All are easy fixes. Next to install children safety seats at rear. Perfect family car, the trunk is huuuuuge. Note- not an daily driver. Just an classic car, where whole family fits easily, and we can travel with it.
Yet i drive 140kmh all the time, polices are not interested for such low passings of speedlimit on hiways. Drove with Cutlass, and so with this. Lesser roads are different thing. Ill buy 225/75/15's, their readily available, locally, with white stripe.
This really gets sidetracked. I dont worry about the future, ill go what we have at hand now. Whats in Netherland is at Netherland. Maybe some time here, but not today, not even tomorrow.
