I think they're doing this so the old engines that need the zinc wear out and we'll have to buy new trucks. I run Rotella in my semi (cummins isx) I have 1.1 million on it and just replaced the flaking cams and new bearings (it didn't need lol). Now I'm wondering how long it'll last...

Another thought about (our) roller valve trains.
I forgot about the needle bearings in the TA rockers, Im sure those are highly loaded also with our required stiffer than stock valve springs.
Im remembering a couple years ago when I replaced all the bearings in my TA rockers, along with new shafts, the shafts looked like a Chevy C-clip axle were the bearing eats the axle, flaking I believe its called.

Lighter valve train parts and overhead cams require much lower spring pressures to keep them in contact.

As much as I spend on a build, break in oil and then everyday use oil, using Gibbs HR2 is small cost.

About 2% of the cost of fuel and oil for 3000 miles for what I consider, better oil.

Why someone would get hung up over $20-30 saved, by using lesser quality oil is beyond my thinking.

Most of the "car people" I know consider oil as insurance and not a commodity! Once you learn the value of using the correct oil for your application and keeping it clean its just a part of the hobby... All good reasons listed above:) ; happy motoring!!

I ran the Joe Gibbs oil for the break in and used the HR2 afterwards on a flat tappet solid cam in July 2023 and everything went very good and I am sticking with this oil instead of using the synthetic stuff.
