Before the board went down, I had posted a topic inquiring about longer springs to raise the ride height in the rear of my 66 Skylark. It was suggested I use Wagon springs, which are taller, and cut them down to suit my taste.

I ordered a set of springs from Original Parts Group (TRW5237), which were listed for 1965-66, 2-seat Wgn (Std). Those are the only Wagon springs listed for my years.

They arrived today, and they don't look any taller than the springs that are on the car now. In fact, the coils actually look thinner than my existing springs.

While I have not taken the old ones off to compare side-by-side, i'm guessing these are not what I wanted.

The part number on the box is TRW CS5237

Can anyone confirm these will raise my car or provide part numbers for alternatives?

    Thanks!

    Go to a Carquest store

They have a spring book and it list in the back the spring rate and free height for all springs. I think they measure the installed height with the load rating.

I'm confused. Who has a book? Is this something I can see online?

Carquest Auto parts stores will have a spring book. I remember that spring number you listed. I was trying to find springs for my 64 and I got CC511 springs but they are to tall. The shocks are fullly extended because they added over 4 inches to the ride height. I looks nice but to stiff. I was told to get longer shocks and it would work out better.
The other option would be air bags in the stock springs.

I have a Moog book, and it does list a #5237.....application is for a '66 Special. That would be the LIGHTEST spring for the '66 Buick A body....
#5231 is for Special 4 door and convertible, and all Skylarks.
#5235 is for Special station Wagon.
#5233 is for Sportwagon (with roof glass)

I'm assuming the TRW and Moog numbers are interchangable.....?????

Here are some specs, again from the Moog book:
    #5237.....0.531" wire dia....14.861" long......rate of 110 lbs/in
    #5231......same................15.769" long.................110
    #5235.....0.590"................16.171".......................143
    #5233.....0.610"................16.382".......................159

I've tried the #5233 in my GS....it was too high. I went to the 5235, and trimmed it for a nice ride height....which is a bit on the high side, as I like the 'old school' look! :TU:

On my '66 Special, I made up some spacers from 1/2" alum that fit between the rear and the spring.....

Your best bet is to find a local parts store that will look up the numbers and specs for you, preferably in a BOOK, not a computer screen.....

Those springs may surprise you. I put my springs on my Skylark and it raised the car almost 2". Came from Eaton Springs. Told them that I had a/c and wanted the HD suspension. The springs looked about the same height as the orginals, but deifinitely raised the car.

Do you have a profile picture of your car with the SW springs (5235) installed? I am thinking of getting these springs for my 64 convertible. Thanks

Put them on and they are basically the same height as the existing springs.

If anyone would like these, I'll sell them for $50 shipped. Cost me $60+ shipping. Only one spring went on the car.

I ended up getting some Gabriel Air shocks, super easy to install, and I can adjust the ride height any way I want.

    PM me or e-mail albert@abertpenello.com

    Thanks!
