Jason, I think your correct, my car was built sometime during the last full week of August 1969.

Yes..I have mine at my office and will compare them this morning. From my recollections, your car is built right in the same time with the body number of the Data Plate very close to mine. I'll let you know later today.

    Thanks for sending it.

It' okay with me, plus Joe Lawton called me a few nights ago and shared some really interesting stories about the car when it was new. I'll share them with you tonight when I have more time to type it out. Larry

Larry, when you get a chance let us know what Joe had to say. As an interesting note, your car was invoiced on the exact same date as mine....

Brad, does invoiced on the same day mean they were built on the same day?

I've wondered that too, but assumed the invoice date was the day it rolled off the line.

I talked to Joe Lawton a few minutes ago for the second time in less than 2 weeks and he updated me with more info and facts on the Little Joe car. He's a great guy to talk to and he's digging out a lot of old pics. of the car racing at various tracks. Once all the photos are found and tracks identified ,he's sending me copies of everything. This will be some great documentation to have for the car! Larry

Okay here goes, Joe Lawton the original driver of the car told me he drove the new 1970 Stage1 home from Clyde Cole Motors in early Sept. 1969.He drove it to Tom Rose's shop where the other race cars were kept. They put headers and 7 inch wide slicks on it which was the first modification done, and took it to Quaker City for the first time out to race it. This was the last race of the season at the track and it was on a Sunday. According to Joe he beat everybody with this "New Stage1 Buick" in the "E.T. Bracket one" class. He said Tom could't take the car out in public until after the 1970 models were sitting on dealers lots which wasn't until the mid- September timeframe. Tom kept the car hidden inside from the public for several weeks per Buick's rules until the end of September. So on that last Sunday in September 1969, Joe Lawton put Tom Rose's newest Buick racecar [soon to be called Little Joe] in the winner's circle, with more wins coming in the future. Larry

    Larry,
Did Joe say if he ordered the car or did Buick have a group of cars built to use as race cars and this one was sold to him?

No. Just means that accounting charged the dealer (Buick Motor Division in my case) for the car on that date. GMAC Financial would start charging interest starting then. My Fisher data tag for time built is 09A, your's is 08E.

Brad, this car was ordered and owned by Tom Rose to be part of his stable of Buick race cars. Joe Lawton was his driver for this 70 model car and there where drivers for each of the other cars also. Mr. Lawton is the only direct link to the history behind my car and I really appreciate the help he's giving me so far.He did say Tom had a connection to Buick somehow in order to get a new model year car before they were released to the public, mainly because he intended on racing it. Also, Tom Rose had a connection with Dennis Manner at Buick R/D which allowed him early access to the Stage 2 head development program,he usually had 3-4 sets of these heads available for his cars. It is my guess that you car was part of a group of early orders banked by Buick to be used for special purposes. Like I said earlier, racing, display, etc. and all very early production. A piece of history.
