I got my vin report back on my 1970 Stage1 and I need some help with it. It shows a body number of 029210, and a invoice date of 09/18, also a price of $3189.59 , it appears to be a low option car. It shows only 6 options listed on it. The VIN starts with 1135xx. What I would like to know is when would this car/ driveline had been built in Flint? Any help out there? Thanks! Larry
The options are L75, M40, U63, F41, WB8, N31. These are the only options on this car and it was sold new at Clyde Cole Buick in Warren, Ohio. It shows that it was sold on delivery, {meaning special order I guess?}. The car is the one in my Avatar,which is the Tom Rose/Mark Busher 1970 Stage1 called "Little Joe", Does anybody know how I can get a window sticker made up for this car with the options listed? Looks like your's could be one of a select group of cars....early builds ordered by Buick Marketing. What dealer does it show???
It would be interesting to see the Sloan Docs. Is there any other dealer or such mentioned on the documents?
I'm sure there were others, but a manual steering automatic and clear windshield on a GS are very unusual. I'd be surprised if it wasn't ordered with the intent of being a race car from new.
You are correct, it was ordered to be a race car,and the clear windshield appears to be the original with a old Buick Tri-Sheild environment friendly logo on it. And Brad the only dealer listed is Cole Motors. Larry
The reason I ask is that your's fits the model of some very special cars, ordered by Buick Marketing, equipped somewhat alike and used for special marketing purposes such as the Reynolds car, the GS Prototype, My GSX Prototype and a couple of others. They were built in the time frame of your car...some went to be show cars, others race cars.
Plain Glass = 807 GS Coupes, 207 Convertibles, 1249 GS350's Manual Steering = 516 GS Coupes, 47 Convertibles, 468 GS 350's I don't have any totals that show combinations but the number would be pretty low.
More than I'd have thought on both. I'd guess most of the manual steering cars were manual trans also. Thanks!
Brad, that's interesting Buick did that. I assume my car was an early build date but I'm not sure when 1970 production actually began, does anybody know the date? I'm guessing since Tom Rose {the original owner} had been running a Buick Racing team at that time on his own, {out of Warren, Ohio,he raced one each of 1967,1968,1969 Gran Sports], therefore when it came time to order the new 1970 model he might have had some help getting one of the very ' first ' New Model Year GS hardtops with all the performance options available without any frills, except AM radio and Rally steering wheel. Also, I'm wondering if Clyde Cole Motors in Warren had some pull at Buick or did Buick just made up a group of cars and it was a first come -first serve situation among various dealerships? Anybody have any thoughts or info. on this? Larry
Larry, if you could scan and post your Sloan documents or email me a copy, I would appreciate it very much. Like I said, your car fits the mold of some very special cars produced very early in the 1970 production run. 1970 production began in August of 1969.
1969 production ended the end of July. The line was shut down for 2 weeks for retooling and vacation time. Im fairly sure 1970 production started 3rd week of August
