Needing some help here on this issue. My axle seals keep leaking shortly after I replace bearings and seals. From what I understand the issue is with the seals, these seals are what sets and keeps the taper bearing preload, which by the way seems like a stupid design to me, but it worked with proper parts.
I just resealed it maybe 300 miles ago and it’s starting to leak again! I got the parts at Napa, they crossed the numbers that I got from Brian Trick here.
These are the parts I used. Are they incorrect?

Also I found a bearing and seals kit from Yukon axle, anyone know anything about these?

The Yukon seals are .470 wide. I called them even though the website says .490 for the bop rears, it is not true.
I had the same leak on one of my axles. I ditched the tapered bearing and used an original. Problem, and stress, solved.

And with the original roller bearing, it doesn't matter the width of the seal.

I am actually dabbling with this right now. Obviously,I take A LOT of these apart. Occasionally,I will get one that had be serviced at some point in its life. I have found some of these with older Bower USA bearings on that that ARE the straight roller. Not identical to the originals, but function the same and have side to side end play without unloading a bearing from a seat. You need to find some old stock. The newer Bowers are the same as everything else now. I was able to find a pair recently on eBay and I am going to try them on a customer’s axle. It’s not going too far away,so if it goes wrong,it’s not at the other end of the planet. Here is a picture of one. It confuses some people because the outer shell is one solid piece, like a sealed bearing has,but it has straight cut rollers inside.

TAke the China straight barrel rollers bearings if you can find them. - I have tried them and they work too. I just do not know the longevity of the bearing itself ... Working on that info as there are a few rears I build some years ago... that is working for me...BUT it is hard to find them too. :( Jim

There is an eBay vendor that is selling a straight cut roller. I think they are the China bearings that Jim is talking about.

This is one of those old style Bower USA straight cut A9/SET9 bearings.

Thanks for the help guys. I found some new old stock straight roller bearings in Delco boxes, they were dated 1971! Got them installed yesterday. This should take care of the leaking axle seals. I never would have known about these or been able to locate the parts without you guys so greatly appreciate it.

Make sure that the axle vent isn't plugged.

I stopped pulling the drum off and checking for leaks after a month. I got paranoid!
