I recently bought a 1961 LeSabre off a fellow. needed a new fuel pump and and new brake booster. I've got the new fuel pump installed and i go to test it and nothing. I must have missed it when i was inspecting the car, but i find this wire under the dashboard.

It goes through the firewall and diverges, one to the fuel pump and the other to nothing.

I'm still new to cars, always been interested and finally decided to get something that would be fun to restore. I'm not super knowledgeable so if this may be a rookie question but i've looked at the 61 buick manual and can't make sense of it. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does that wire actually have power? Get out a test light or multi meter!

Looks like the wire in your first picture might have been shoved in the fuse box to provide power to the pump, kinda sketchy but we've all done it!

    Thanks for the reply!
I'm gonna pick up a multi-meter tomorrow and I'll test on it.

Gotcha. what would be a less sketchy way of getting power to the pump? Or am i fine keeping it that way?

Not unless one was added. The 364 and 401 had a mechanical fuel pump.

Sorry, should have specified, the previous owner swapped the engine for a chevy 350 and when he did he went with an electric fuel pump.

Then it is a matter of tracing the power wire from the pump back to the power source, and see where you are disconnected/losing power. Being the engine and who knows what else is no longer stock, you need at minimum a meter and/or test light. You should have power when the key is turned to RUN. Not much anyone can do to help in a case like this.
