    UPPER RUBBER FLEX HOSE COLLAPSED!!!!
THIS ONE IS SOMETHING TO LOOK INTO ALSO. Had a camaro that did this and smoked the brakes on the way to Rock'n Racing at 42 one year...Very disappointed as it was the LAST thing I checked and took all weekend. :( Jim

And it seems to me when I set the rear drums to no drag the Parking brake has little bite as well.

Larry is always 1000% correct, it's so annoying.

Our cars are all so out of date? The manual I quote is the 1968 Chassis manual. I am not clear on what you mean about a brake arc?

If you leave the shoes dragging, they will not be dragging for long. as the drum will wear away the lining. Maybe this is the idea?

I think the idea is to adjust the shoes to be as close to dragging as possible, but not dragging. I suppose this is a fine point.

With regard to brake performance, the mechanical advantage of a drum brake is so great that I doubt this minute adjustment difference is measurable.

I live on a steep hill and have no issue with the parking brake ;~)

:)First, I am never correct all the time. Just been messing with these cars for some time. When I say light drag, I mean very light drag. The brake shoes aren't ever perfectly concentric with the drum. You want it as close as possible because there is a lag with drum brakes as they have to overcome the spring tension, and whatever clearance there is to apply. That is the main reason for a hold off valve in disc/drum systems. Disc brakes are inherently instant acting, drum are not. The hold off holds off the disc brakes until there is pressure in the rear system. I just adjust them so I can hear a very light scrape as I turn the tire. Too much clearance is no bueno.

Got it, no sense of humor. Sorry about that.

Yes, it's true, I am an ignorant a-hole.

Thanks for this, I think Bob/Quick Buick is correct as well. Apparently the arc-ing process is way that shoes are shaped to more closely match the drums before installation. Since we are not doing that for the most part (I am not), I think adjusting them so there is a slight drag allows the drum to machine the shoe to conform more closely and then it no longer drags.

Isn't that the boat that Moses herded the animals onto, to save them from the flood?

I'm very curious to see if it is the flex hose like Brian and Monzas are imploring. That would be a huge plus and an easy fix.

I have seen one of these at an older dealership. I wonder how many techs contracted mesothelioma using one of these machines.

Oh, that's right. And as we all know, he made that boat out of steel, fusing the steel panels together using an ARK welder.

The Ark welder was actually a series of lightning bolts from the heavens.

:D Then he cranked up all 4 Nailheads powering the props, and off he went.:D

And a few thousand years later, the CIA stepped up from the Nailhead, and used the BBB 455 as the starter motor for the SR-71's 160,000 HP J58 engines.
