I am having a hard time installing roof seals on my 69. It is the top front corner that I cant get correct. When I took out the original there was a cut on it to ease installation on that tight corner. I have tried to duplicate this cut with no luck ! I have purchased two sets that are now in my thrash can , before I buy set number three can I get some advice ? :(

    hardtop or convertible?

Also - you might consider posting a pic of the new seal showing the "problem area".

IT is a hard top, the problem area is where the pillar meets the roof.

You might check w/The Parts Place as they MAY have a better shaped roof rail w/strip set. They do sell a supposedly-nicer door w/strip with the latex rubber coating like the original. Not sure if they also offer a "nicer" corresponding hardtop roofrail w/strip pair.

The originals WERE NOT cut up in that corner.....but they WERE molded to have the corner angle in the w/strip. That's the problem w/most repro roofrail w/strips for our cars....they DON'T have that angle molded into the strip and that corner never wants to "tuck up" into the bright stainless pieces.

The originals also have a wire reinforcement piece inside the length of the strip. None of the repro sets have the wire reinforcement (one reason they can be priced so reasonably).

You probably shouldn't rely on anyone on the phone at The Parts Place.....they typically aren't too accurate or detail oriented when you ask specific questions.

You'd be better off talking with Todd on this site.....Stage1Restorations. He may carry various brands of the roofrail w/strips (possibly including the TPP latex covered strips) and since he's a true car nut like us my bet is you'll get accurate answers to your specific questions from him.

I used the A&M soffseals with success. Although they don't have a molded corner at the A pillar I was able to get them pretty good.

As Patton mentioned, the parts place has a latex set that has a molded corner. Ive installed that one as well. They both have they're pros and cons. It's a toss up really on which one I'd use again. Here is the link to my install. Plenty of good info for you

Take the stuff out of the trash can and practice making the cuts on the junk parts.

I have done that Matt, not to much luck. I am going to try TPP seals as it looks like that will work nice. Thanks
