Hi, I know a guy who had 2 done in Bay City Carquest I believe, but was several years ago, ran ok, nothing very wild about either Regards, Jim
Try Reichert Engines in Owosso. They have experience on the Nailheads. I have no personal experience with them.
for a basic near stock rebuilt why would anyone not go to the nearest reputable, reasonably priced and willing to do the job machine shop. just need to make a list maybe 4-5 things to tell them. it's been talked about on this site many times on what to do or not to do. things that come to mind are keep clearances main and rod bearings near factory specs, do not put in new exhaust valve seats, make sure the camshaft bearings are not to tight and cam spins easy. do a little home work and save yourself thousands of dollars.
Joe is right - wherever you go, you are gonna have to drive the bus and be very specific on what and how you want done. I've seen very talented machinists cut corners just because the customer didn't ask for it to be done to what we would consider a correct standard...
X2, do your research on do's and don'ts. Be specific about what you want, even why if needed. My last nailhead machine work was done well and reasonable, in Montrose. I had the assembly balanced and that engine was smooth... Shannon's Engine Services Inc.
